no one likes the idea of keeping an mpc60 battle in an mpc forum instead of an sp forum?:|

its prob better to have the battle here... drumatic has posted shit before n nobody wanted to get down. so yah better drop beats. it would def make more sense to have it over here more people will vote. yah better come half as sick as the sp heads. i dont wanna come over here n be dissapointed in my 60 heads who got more features on there hands. good luck... ill be voting and ill direct the 60 contestants over to this thread.

Yeah I saw that other thread drumat!c posted. I was gonna post a beat but I got in trouble at school so my equipment was off limits. I'm down for this one though.

J/k. How about this? We all post rules would like imputed in this thread right here then after everything is sorted out and everybody who is particpating I'll start another thread where we will post the beats and vote.

I think these are good ideas for rules:

MPC60 MK1 or MK II only, memory don't matter.

No multitracking, must be done in 1 single take? or multitracking aloud? and if so how many tracks..

Mixing board usage ok, but no external proccessing. Eqing and preamps from a mixing board are inevitable in coloring the sounds, and imho a neccessity for a proper mix. no other proccessing though

effecTS: echo or reverb only. too much other shit mangles up sounds. but reverb is a neccesity for drums. and if u don't know this, u better learn yourself some studio knowledge.

I think no intros unless they're done on the MPC sampled in.

Also keep it cordial, cept that's impossible we're humans with humanity...

for posting of MP3s I think they should be posted without a name until the battle is over. this way it's about the beats not about the person making them.

what do u all think about these ideas? care to elebaroate and such?

Whats up with those multitracking rules?
I mean does it really make a beat so different? I don't think so.
Be creative, fellas!

One thing that got me wondering though was,...
To be honest from most of the 60 beats I heard on here I was suprised by the extremely unprofessional recordings. First off, most the beats I heard where so incredibly quiet that the peak must have been something like -40db. A proper constant level with perhaps some limiting ontop would do most of these recordings good, since I have the feeling alotta ppl here sample at low input volumes, thus not giving the 60 the drive it needs to make the drums 'n samples sound big enough.

I'm not tryna hate on anyone neither dissing the 60, I'm just wondering if tracking and sampling is SOOO hard with this unit. I mean a VU meter is a VU meter, right? :D

If you're struggling with your settings: when recording to the pc try to get your peak a little below -1 to 0db to have some headroom and slam a mild limiter on there. Wavelab features analyzing for this (press "Y") so you can experiment with a few settings. I know the 3k is in a different league but I dont even try to track my shyt too loud and normally my rms max is at -11db which you can easily play after a mastered track from CD without noticing a major drop in quality or peaks/rms.

Anyhow, I'll stick around to see whats poppin with ya'll 60 heads!
Give me some grimey hotness

the multiracking doens't change it, but it adds an infinite amount of sampling time.

if yer talking straight recording multpole tracks at the same time that's one thing. i was talking more multitracking like goin back, throwing oin some extra shit y aknow?:-)

also I think ther should also be a time limit. t o keep people listening to the whole thing giving a fair chance to the whole thing. maybe 30 seconds or a minute? too many 8 minute tracks and ther won't be good reviews cuz no one will listen to it all if there's things with too long of times...
