Whats up w/ the zone feature under edit

I've never got deeply into the zone feature under editing on the mpc 2000xl but i played with it a few times some ways back but now i'm considering of using it for some of my samples, i understand one can chop up your samples numerous times. so i was wondering that if one chop a sample up in a few places and let the whole sample loop, would the zones that was selected be muted out, if that make sense, or could someone get down into detail and let me know whats up with that?

the way you are describing the "zone feature" is the way the "slice" on the Electribe ES1 works.

its a little bit different on the MPC though.

lets say you have a drumbeat. you can set each of the slices individually in the zone edit screen. when you slice them up, you can assign those new samples to a new program, or assign them to your existing program via the pad assign screen.
now you can play the sliced up stuff in the way you want by hitting the pads you assigned them to.

for people who are set on rockin breakbeats instead of downloading or sampling individual drum hits ( i like breaks better myself, drums sound more unified i think) this is how you chop a break and reallly flip the shit out of it. now you can play, pick and choose every drum hit in a break beat.

are u able to do this on the classic 2000
i have a problem gettin break loops to work for me with out getting any clicks in it, any way u can help with that sensewondah

pm me and i"ll send you info on how to chop loops with a "classic" mpc2000. i just wrote it, and was going to post it, but its too long.

this is more for newbies but has the kind of info i havent seen anywhere else. i know the tutor is including a section on chopping beats but im afraid his book might be too expensive for my blood (im poor).

xl users (or recycle users) neednt bother, but if you just are using a classic mpc and nothing else, this may be helpful.
