max ram 4 the 2000xl?

hey guys ive been slowly putting my set together on my mpc for the last few months, so far ive got 6 songs programmed in, but i just went 2 programme in the 7th & it says that theres not enough memory, i opened her up & it looks like ive got 32mb in there already, am i able 2 upgrade it 2 sum bigger ram than that?

if not then how do u guys get around it?

loading programmes in mid set is not really an option for me as this is for breaks music & its gta be non stop

You can buy the flash rom. You will get 8 ram extra.

to get around the extra memory needed you have to shortin some of those long sounds that you have in the MPC current memory or delete the current sounds that you have loaded that you know that you are not going to use in the seq or songs you are working on.

someone please clearify this for me:
the 8 megs flash rom works as storage AND processin memory
or
(as i thought) just as storage so u need to use the normal ram to load it?

I would say it's pretty tought to fit more than 6 songs into 32MB of RAM, unless you have short samples, like dude said^^

Buy a different MPC, the new ones got more RAM

about the flash rom, even increasing it by 8mb is only a bandaid solution, i plan on having up to 15-20 songs in my set,

also the samples i have in there are almost all really short 1 shots, & the few long 1s i have dont go for more than a bar

am i dreaming here & trying 2 use the 2000 for sumthing that it is just not going 2 do?

will i have 2 sell it & get a 2500, which can be expanded to 128?

chop out what you don't need.
32mb is max.
8mb flash rom is an expensive bandaid.

I think so, if you already got your samples shaved down to bare minimums. Don't sell it tho, it's a member of your family

So to set the record straight and to break it down so it can forever be broken........ will the Flash rom help with the MPC's internal processing speed, as in helping varions functions (like resampling) process faster or does it only do what it is supposed to, which is allow you to save sounds internally, like say the MPC1000?

read about the flash rom in the 2k/2kxl manual to make sure you read it from akai's mouth and not messed up and misinterpreted info from anyone/everyone.

32MB is like 5 minutes of sample time

too late already put it up on ebay, this thing has honestly been one headache after another eva since i got it, im looking forward 2 getting rid of it & upgrading 2 the 2500

Yeah, but that's mono, it's less then 3 min if you use stereo. A couple of longer voice samples will eat up RAM hella quick.

hes running out of sample time. the 2500 has a lot more sample time doesnt it?

coz my main prob has been with the zip drive & losing heaps of work, then goin through buying & trying 2 install a flash card reader only 2 find out that the 1 i bought is the wrong model,

am looking forward 2 having a working flash card reader & a usb connection already installed on the 2500!
