30 seconds??? I have the feeling im totally disconnected from what y'all are doing!
For shopping beats I do shyt like 1:30 which leaves enough space for an intro , verse and a hook plus fadeout. Just an Idea

1:30 might be good:-)

I don't do hip hop, i do thing bout 160bpm instead, so i can fit a lot of bars in that 1:30 seconds lol:-)

I have a suggestion......we should have it on going. What i mean by that is someone can get lucky one week with a good sample, or the others choice bad samples and they could win by fluke. If these battles were over a few rounds per se that would ensure that the better producers get their proper shine. Then after a few weeks the producer with the most wins could maybe go up against the top dog in the sp forum as they have had some cool battles.

This would be more competitive and it will avoid someone coming along with their one heater and looking good. (not to say anyone here is like that) One other advantage of this is that i know for a fact that non-producer do look at some of these posts and that could lead to some producers making contacts with these people due to the people seeing a consistant display of beats.

sorry for going on so much but i think yall know what i mean by all of this.

I'm not too sure of the time limit since I like to put a lot of build ups and break downs in my beats.

Aside from that, I'm down or whatever!

well the reason for time limits is lets be reasonable, no one wants to sit through 20 8 minute tracks...i sure as hell dont. u can get the gist of just about any track in 10 seconds even...especially hip hop...and tekno...trance not so much so. but kinda... ambinet no..but id on't think many people will be entering ambient in?:-)

it also gets a lot to be judged on if you're talkina bout composition vs a good beat...

I'm all ready to go. The beat I wanna enter is basicly done.

We can do that whole tournament thing with rounds and stuff later. Right now lets just do this simple battle and see whos willing to participate.

No use planning out a whole tournament then have people not even participate.

If you guys don't have a problem with being ready by this weekend, heres what I suggest.

All beats should be in by friday and I'll make the thread on saturday. Then voting will go on all weekend and we can get another battle started on monday.

Send me your links through pm and so I can put them all in one post. Also I think posting without a name is a great idea. I'll just upload them all onto a soundclick site and name them Beat 1, Beat 2, etc...

Other Rules:
1.Only beats made with a MPC 60 (mk1 or mk2 doesn't matter) can be entered.
2.All elements off the song had to have to be coming straight out the 60. (no inserting super long intros or cheating for sample time using software/other samplers)
3.Mixing is allowed but try to keep the sound as raw as possible!
4.All voters must make a post corresponding with their vote.

If this sounds ok let me know!

i think before we establish deadlines u gotta figure out rules first and they gotta be strict. no pussy footin around it.

also a week is needed to be given at least I think.

also i'm thinkin maybe if this goes on there should be themes. possibly even "see what u can do with these samples" and load up a few breakbeats in. THERE is the real talent:-D

Aiht next weekend. Also I don't think strict rules or having people use the same samples and stuff is a good thing. Maybe other people wood like that.

Mainly we need some more people to get into this. We can't have three people making up the rules and stuff. We want more than three people to participate right?

I'm gonna say that we should scratch the time limit, cause I hate being limited. If someone wants to enter an 8 min beat, let them. They'll probably lose, and it'll be there own stupidity for entering it. My beats are always about 3 min in length when theres no emcee on them, just so u can hear the different parts and what not. I think the rules Grim listed are cool. I also think we should make the deadline next Tuesday night or something along those lines. Maybe even next weekend. Looks like we are gonna start having general battles on the SP forum where cats can do whatever they want. Check the thread and add any suggestions if you want.

I did this a couple nightas ago, all 60mk2, nothing else. But there is a rhyme over it. I still got the beat though.
Its in the music forum, but here it is again

can't set up deadlines unless rules have been decided upon...:o I'd give a week or 2 to get hype up there. you can't just say" DEADLINE NOW!" and expect everyone in the world to hear about it...
