does anyone notice the difference between if you put a sample in the 3000 and the xl once you put it 16 levels? Im not trying to start anything, just wondering if anyone hears the same difference that I do.

dog have u messed with the filters and envlopes on ur fantom XR rack, it blows the MPC out the water. The filters alone are off the chain, then add the fact u can layer filters on top of sounds and edit sounds and tweak them to ur own liking

I dont know man sounds like u really dont know how to use that fantom to its potiental

O what up Class, How u?

I switched from the XR to the XA board a few months back.
I messed with the filters a bit and the effects. Ill dig back into it in the future maybe If I dont sell the damn thing. Not realy trying to diss it but I would rather sample some strings or piano off a record and use those. It sounds better to me. Plus 50,000 ****** wont have the same azz sounds as me. I feel u though brotha.

Jacpot, You are not even scratching the surface on that XA brotha.
Take it back out of the closet and edit those sounds. Boards are designed to design your own sounds. The existing waveforms are standard samples and you can work with them anyway you want. That oversaturated sounds is all the crap that companies throw on the boards to make them sound rich in the store. Start from scratch and make your own sound, treat the wavefrom like something you sampled and tweak away.

Your missin out.

and remember:

Boards are only cheesy for cheesy producers.

Like I said Jacpot....Dennison hit it on the nose. Forget the presets, forget the fools that use the presets and get in there and program it. There is nothing like programing a synth...er, well, maybe an MPC!

yeah but you can also do this with the fantom, just ignore the preset sounds, AND you'll be messing with a full featured sampler with your samples in it.. I'm not saying choose between the 2 but rape both of them.

I loop them so that they last longer than one second. Then I change the decay on the loops so that they have some "release" on them

Some times u need to sample a couple a different notes into the mpc one at a higher octave and one at a lower octave.
If u are playin the middle octaves like around bank B somewhere I dont have these issues. You just gotta treat each instrument differently

No thank you. I'd much rather take a Fantom/Motif/Triton and use their internal effects like a fuzzy guitar effect or a "radio/telephone" effect on a piano, flute, string, or wutever and save that patch. All that sampling individual hits and spreading it out and all that other stuff you have to do is a waste of time.

I make my own "sampled" piano or guitar or string riffs using internal effects of a synth. I use an effect as I described above, either play the riff using the keyboards sequencer or sample the riff live as I play it into the MPC.

Doing all that other stuff seems like it would kill your flow.

I don't know, that's just me.

Honestly. the only good use I've found for autochromatic assign is basslines and computer noises/SoundFX. My $0.02, not hatin'.

I got a couple of multisampled Piano programs and I only had to make them once, like a drumkit. I, however, don't have a fancy pants sampling keyboard, I do all my programming and sequencing in the MPC, so in order to have good piano sounds for my piece-o'-sh!t MIDI controller keyboard to trigger, I have to make my own programs.

Peace1

These guys have a very good point, plus within the time it takes to dig thru a create, find a decent record to sample, chop it up and loop it. you could have completly resampled and altered a synth sound. c'mon dawg they dont cost 3 & 4 thousand dollars for nothing :)
