and you can't really think like that, "imagine paying 4k for a mpc1k". if the currency rate is 3.8, then 1 usd is worth 3.8 times as much as Malaysian currency  it's still the excact same amount of money. Here in Norway, the currency rate is 1 usd = 6.70 NOK, but I can't really say "oh, I have to pay seven times as much for my gear".

What the f0ck are you talking about?

Because in some countries sh** really _does_ cost way more even if you factor out the currency conversion.

Check out australian prices for gear, cost is thru the roof.

Ever browsed on Ebay where u can see the prices converted automatically? U will notice this..

word. with 4g's you can get plane tix to the US, get to chill here and buy an mpc. its crazy how much cheaper things are here in america, yet we still complain. a $50k mercedes here cost about $150k in malaysia and close to $100k in Europe, even with bad currency exchange rate. a uk pound is close to 2 bucks now...

Yeah but that was not the case here... He said "imaging paying 4 times as much" and then he said that the currency conversion rate was 3.8. Oh yeah, that will equal about a 5.3 % higher price.

Read the posts before you answer, Einstein.

I simply answered your question, ie. what the f** was he talking about. I'm pretty sure that's what truvc was talking about.

If you read the whole post once more, both of you will se how stupid you have been. General higher or lower price level from country to country was never a subject, thread starter was just saying the MPC 1000 costs 4000 <malaysian currency>, and the currency rate is 3.8. You see, the price level ain't that different.

orjanbeats -> Norway is one of the richest country in the world. go abroad. find out how much people earn, convert to dollars. you'll be surprised.

he said:
"And don't mention the exchange rate..we copin it here for like 4k plus..imagine payin 4K USD for a 1000..so u know my concerns. "

then he says:
"I just meant to explain the feeling of having to pay 4k of whatever currency you have for a MPC1K. It's priced at around USD 1K but the exchange rate over here to the US dollar is about 3.8 which makes us pay around 4 K."

this guy is confused. exchange rate is totally irrelevant.

Of course I know, and I am not complaining about the price level here either. I just stated that just because the currency rate is 6.7, it doesn't mean that everything is 6.7 times more expensive here than in the US.

Yeah, exchange rate doesn't matter. I imagine that in Malaysia an MPC is probably way harder to come across and stores jack the price though. It tends to be like that in Canada (where I live) for alot of stuff.

I guess you said "what the f0ck are you talking about" when what you meant was "I know what you're talking about and it's irrelevant". It's not my fault if you don't write clearly.

I agree with your premise that pointaboi is kind of off track in his wording... but just because people are blurring the line between exchange rate and actual price difference doesn't mean they aren't both relevant factors in this discussion. Quite possibly Malaysians do earn less in 'real' terms than people in the US, and quite possibly that is influencing the poster's comments, don't you think?

By sleepersriddle Sun Mar 26, 2006 3:38 am
Also, there are a host of economic and political factors determining exchange rate. Do you think that a Malaysian dollar really should be worth 1/4 of a US dollar? It is actually kind of simplistic to think that way.

Look at all the companies that outsource to China, because in their perception they get a 'good deal' on 'cheap labor'. Obviously they feel the labor is actually worth more than how the market currently values it, see my point? Markets are not perfect and they are known to be slow to react.

Let's say the guy makes the same as you do, except in malaysian dollars... and the cost of living is similar to yours, but in malaysian dollars... but then when he goes to buy an MPC he gets screwed due to his poor exchange rate and pays 4 times the amount he thinks he should. I don't see any problem with that way of describing it.

There is a lot more to this issue than you are thinking about.
