Drum Effects

After I have created drum sounds in Sound Forge and loaded them into the MPC, and recorded my drum patterns, I mix them down. A lot of my kick drums have tails on them that sound hot when recorded but do not sound good after mixing, no matter how much tweaking I do. What should I do?

I fade out the tails on my drums usually.. in sound forge or mpc envelope, same result.. mpc is non-destructive though.
