Can i use an electric drumset with my MPC1000 via midi?

I use an alesis DM Pro, and i know you can just hook up the midi ins and outs to the MPC and it records all the pad hits as General MIDI information. On playback, you can either just let the ION's sound module play the sounds (i assume it has some line outs or headphone outs)

OR

you can use the pads to play drum hits you've sampled into the MPC as wav files. (if the ION has velocity sensitive pads, it will obviously record that velocity info as MIDI as well) Just look what notes are being entered in the step edit mode as you play and assign the correct sounds to those pads.

the midi notes for all the basic components of a typical drum kit are standardized in General MIDI; they also always correspond to the same MPC pads. ex: pad A06 is usually the main snare, A02 is usually the main kick, A03 is usually the closed hat, A01 is usually a rimshot or sidestick of some kind. for more information, look in the midi note implementation for the MPC. i forget what the menu is called, but its certainly there.

it doesn't really matter, in fact that ION thing looks like a standard gum-rubber pad with brain type arrangement, very similar to the SPD, just cause it doesn't look like it doesn't mean anything... if it has MIDI I/O then there should be no reason he can't trigger samples from his MPC and also record these events...if you connect teh ION to teh MPC go Load>MIDI and selct note page, hit teh pads to determine what values they are, write em down and build a prg to suit..its that easy
