And actually, if you want to go by the "what makes sense" theory, it would actually make more sense that it was resampled digitally without going to to analog first. Here are the 2 reasons I believe this:

1. Why would they design it to go through the D/A converter just to have to route it right back through an A/D converter... seems redundant to me.

2. Assuming they did design it to sample the Analog signal, there would have to be a physical switch to route the analog signal back to the A/D converter... whereas if it is sampling the digital signal, a simple digital logic circuit does the trick.

It "makes more sense" to me that it would be sampling the digital signal BEFORE it gets converted to analog.

Agreed.

Again.. The "MAIN OUT" IS analog...

And it IS the MAIN OUT that you're resampling. Not the Digital out.

I agree on that it would be an easy step to make the mpc resample in digital, but it's not what's happening (right now anyway).

Another argument.

when resampling, you get a different volume level, not to mention, a different "sound" of the sample.

you can even overdrive the signal when resampling.. explain that.

I'm certain. It's analog.

Sorry man, I belive you are wrong, but you reminded me of another point that shows it's probably resampling digitally...

When resampling, you cannot overdrive the signal, in fact, the volume controls have no effect when resampling the main out.... try it.

Ok... wait a sec, I know what's going on for you... if you are experiencing overdrive and a "different sound" when resampling, then it is due to 1 or both of these two possibilities:

1. Your master volume control is set too high... turn it down to -12 or -18.

2. Your sounds are all too loud... turn them all down either in the MIXER or by turning down their individual levels in the actual PROGRAM.

One thing that has always bugged me is that the MPC 1000 (or any of the other models as far as I know) doesn't have any internal meter for checking the output level. It is hard to know how hot your signal is without using an external VU or in this case preferably a digital meter.

You are correct in that of course the MAIN OUTS are analog, but the fact remains that up until RIGHT BEFORE the physical main out jacks, that signal is digital. Just because the main out jacks themselves are analog, does not mean that when the MPC is resampling the main outs that it is resampling in analog... it is probably taking the signal right before the D/A converter, which would mean it is still digital.

10 bucks says this is the problem.
