New to Production, What do i neeD?

Aye Y'all...

I'm new to producing, right now i have no real hardware..I have a 4-string bass, 2 turntables w/ mixer, Fruity Loops 4.1....but i wanted to purchase a production station, What is the best for the money? I'm looking to spend from $1000 to $1500, more if i really need...Whut system's can i make an entire beat and burn it to a cd, or link it to my computer to burn it? Any feedback is appreciated.....

Well, since this is a forum for the MPC, I'd recommend a MPC 2000XL (its within the price range you mentioned). But don't limit yourself. The MPC is a very solid hardware piece. You'll have to find sound file/samples to load it with to make your music and you MUST get the 8 outs. No true MPC producer should live without them. Once you've made your song on the MPC, you can load it into your PC via midi to your recording software program and burn your cd. On the another hand, you could get the Korg Triton Studio workstation and do everything (record, sample, edit, filter, mixdown, and burn to cd) with one piece (a very expensive piece, I might add~'round $2500-2700 G's). Just a couple of suggestions. You can see what I'm working with in my sig box below. Any regulars care to enlighten mr. jehan003 on other hardware pieces...lampdog?...mpc-tutor?...phatz from philly? (my best friend in the army is from philly..y'all wild boy)

I use the 2kxl as well but the 1k might be good it will save you a few dollars as well just something to think about before you go shelling out that doe........go to a music store when youve got like a few hours free time and just test drive machines......thats the best I can give you

I think you should go with the mpc1000 and some recording software for the computer and a good computer recording soundcard. This way you can multitrack record your beats, scratches (you said you had tables right?), bass, etc. and mix them down and burn them to a cd. Any one else have any thoughts?

I would suggest you get a used ASR X Pro. Make sure its fully expanded. Do the research on that one. The Fantom S goes for about a grand used, now that the Fantom X is out. These two joints are much more comprehensive than the MPC series. You will probably get more for your money with either of these pieces. If you have ZERO natural rythym then the Asr X's sequencer will not "cheat" for you like the MPC, so be warned. If your triggering is sloppy your sequences will be sloppy.
