U gotta Love that MPC1000!!!!!!

Totally agreed, the 1k is great and still getting better. Although I have been thinking about getting another sampler to compliment the mpc1k as well. The only thing is that I am gettting so used to the 1k's sampler (especially with the new lfo's, slice, etc..) it makes me not want to move away from it. So, after looking around i'm pretty sure I am going to get a vp9000. I have seen and heard what these units can do and it is nothing like the 1000. Which means that I can sample into either unit and the result will be completely different, so I can get the best of the best of both units and expand my sampling capability.

*If anyone has this setup, let me know how it is working for you.

the mpc1000 is great with one compliment. bigman, i'ven ever even heard of the vp9000, but using 2 different samplers at once is a great move.

i use the sp404 and ableton both as (re)samplers with my 1k and love the combination. the 1k itself is cool but 2 heads are better than one...

i just got into sampling into the ASR10 adding FX.**** with the filters then resampling the ASR-10 to the MPC1000 and sence u get what u put in the mpc it sounds **** awsome. then i turn off the asr-10 and make the beat in the mpc1000

cos of this reason I've been looking for an extra sampler too. I was thinking of the emu 4xt ultra u know if this is a nice addition to my mpc 1000?

do some research before going for the vp9000, it can do some great things but is pretty limited in some ways as well. what can it do that you find you'd get some use out of?

i'd recommend the ASR-10, an E-mu e4/5 etc, or an Akai myself. some people really like the Yamaha A-series as well. depends on what you need. i wanted complex modulation routings that are unavailable on most samplers so i narrowed it down to the ASR or E-mu. ended up with the E-mu e4X and am *very* happy with it. sounds fantastic compared to the MPC.

ok i'm convinced. I'll buy a emu 4xt ultra when my money comes in later this month. One question though... how do u slave the mpc1000 to the emu/asr 10? i mean i can't seem to find anything like midi clock. Just word clock.... damn...

Sad,but 1k only comes with midi clock,and not mmc or mtc. makes sure that your software and samplers have at least midi clock to talk to each other.

yeah that's what i9 already knew. My question is, i want to use the mpc to control the emu 4xt ultra sampler. the sequensing will be done in the mpc too. I only want to trigger the samples in the emu. Do i need some kinda clock for this? i'll use it like a soundmodule, so i don't think i'll need it. anyone?

does the ASR10 come with digi in?... can you sync via the digi's?

yea the ASR has digi in and out but u need the output expander 2 use them

but i like to sample into the asr 10 add my fx **** with the bit rate then sample back into the mpc1000 and make the beat in there so i dont have to hassle saving on the ASR-10 even tho i gotta Iomaga 100mb Zip Drive.

Plus its good to turn off ur asr-10 it will last longer and plus they do get hot

the mpc 1k was the first mpc i had ever owned... the OG 2000 being the first one i ever put my hands on. in the year of 05, i started with just my pc with a shit ass radio shack keyboard making beats with reason and cubase/VSTs (with no touch sensitivity on the board as well lol)... then i copped the 1k from an engineer friend who needed money.

i ended up getting a proteus 2000 module to start with, had a great time with the 1k, and a little later got a triton le... the feel and workflow definately changed... and at this moment i was very envious and anxious about trying more and more hardware. i wanted a bigger mpc, so thru a sweet deal i landed with someone, i ended up with a MV8000... after having that for a couple months, i sold all my hardware and copped the mpc2500, but due to some personal BS i couldnt quite cop a new workstation, but i ended up with a n alesis ion, which i sold after a week to get the controller im using now, the Studiologic SL-990pro... i took a month vacation at the end of the year out of town to see family and friends, and during that time decided on selling the 2500 because i could get so much money and upgrade the shit out of my pc.

so now i got the studiologic, mbox 2, and trigger finger as the core of my setup... i dont mind the trigger finger, BUT... god damn i miss having note repeat. i miss the bang of those drums coming out those A/D converters, and i even miss the sequencer a little bit.

maybe i'll pick up a 1k again in a few more weeks


one thing thats real tight about having a real mpc synced to your setup tho, is just being able to use it as a midi controller... slave it to cubase, open battery... all the mpc tricks are still there, like note repeat, but you can just bang it right into cubase and structure songs so damn fast! VIVA LA MPC!

cd3000xl is not worth using for the fx, they suck. Same FX board as the MPC2000xl, same converters, same sound engine too. I know: I have one.
On the other hand I recommend buying the cd3000xl (or its non CDROM twin brother: the s3000xl) if it has an optional filter board fitted. The resonant filters of the 3000xl series are awsome. As standard the 3000xl only have lopass filter (like the mpc2kxl), with the optional filter board you get high and band pass too, plus a third envelope for AMP and filter modulation.
Note that the 3000xl also works as a basic virtual analog synth, esp. when you have the filterboard instaled, because you can load any simple wave (sine, square, pulse) and use three different modulation sources, combining one LFO and two envelopes. Given that you have 4 layers for samples you can combine different wave forms in a complex programme.
The cd3000xl has a crispier sound than the mpc1000, it has 8 out as standard and is a very good sampler overall - I wouldn't qualify its sound as 'warm' though. I had bought an akai z8 to replace my cd3000xl, and eventually sold the z8 and kept the cd3000xl instead.

I have my S2000 fitted with the filter board as well as the extra outs. The filter board is almost essential, wouldn´t have bought my MPC if it missed the second filter. A high pass is needed at all times to keep the low end clean and controlled if you sample discrete sounds and / or dirty records.

sound,workflow? I've worked with many of the samplers across the board,and I'm comfortable with vintage sampler's (ASR-10)you just can't get that AD/DA converter from any keyboard sampler out todate!. it's the same with SP1200,808,909,and the MPC 60 with the grungy crisp sound. As soon as I can get a hold of some extra cash,I'm getting another ASR-10.
