from Keyboard to MPC and adding beats.

Hi u guys!

I just copped a mpc2000xl last week... YEAH!!
Now i got the following issue... I got a synthesizer a KORG X5D.
Now what I want to do, is to record the keys that I play on my synth to the MPC. (I got my MIDI all hooked up, is it also correct that i can hear the whole sound bank when i tap my pads on the mpc??) but when I do that how can i also add a drum or hi hat loops to it, while my synth keys are running?? I cant find it anywhere in my manual.

you have to change DRUM to MIDI then select the midi channel you want.

Alright, listen,.. this is what I do...
I got my midi set on channel 10. So I hear my drumkits from my Synth on the mpc... so now I want to record a beat. I change Drum to Midi... I make a drum... Now I want to record that! I push in REC - PLAY/START.
I got that recorded. But how can I make that drum role and add some of my other drum loops that i got. Cuz when I switch to drum,.. I cant hear the beat that I made on my Synth. It's gettin me crazy! The same story is for as I want to make a beat on the mpc with the beats that i load. and i want to add some from my synth,... my synth got all my banks full of sounds of the synth. Should I put everything in a program??

when you're ready to add something new over what you already did, are you moving to the NEXT TRACK? you have to go to the next track. you cant change anything about the track you just recorded. goto the next track and start again......

of course the 2000 is slightly different from the xl but your problem is simple..check this out

set track 1 to whatever you want to use (MIDI:10a whatever). Then once you know what you wanna record, press record + playstart.

now once that is complete, CHANGE TO THE NEXT TRACK. then set track 2 up to do what you want. if you wanna use the sounds on the mpc, set it to DRUM if you wanna use a midi device, set it to MIDI then the channel you want to use.....

once you finish that track, SWITCH TO THE NEXT TRACK, then so on and so on until you're finished.

also, dont use the same midi channel twice. when you go to a new track, use a new midi channel....

if you already tried this stuff, let me know. not tryna be an **** but sometimes your solution is something really simple

Do you have any sounds loaded up?

But anyways as smoove suggested dats what u can do. Also are you settin the instruments at different channels?

Example
Bass-MIDI 1
Snyth-MIDI 2 ect....

Aiight man,.. Now its working,.. but still got a prob!
Now when Im playin my keys that im recordin. I hear it Twice even when im not done playin on my synth!! so it dowsnt sound smooth at all,... guess that has has to do with the timing??

no lol you probably keep playing after it's done recording the first time around....

say you have your sequence set to 8 bars. when you start recording, its gonna go thru those 8 bars, then it will repeat (start over) at bar 1. BUT it will now be on OVERDUB. you probably kept playing while it was on overdub and it kept what you recorded first and recorded whatever else you were playing....thats all i can think of for that.

once it reaches those 8 bars, stop playing.

Still I got a question. When I record, and i'm done recording. and i wanna listen what i recorded. At the end I hear a silence. that is when i got the loop set on On! that's for like one second. But that doesnt sound good! I want the sound to have the right settings. without the silence,... So it sounds like a real beat that keeps on going! Does it has to do with my Bars settings or something??

it might...how many bars do you have it set on?

do you know the basics about makin beats? you should mess around on it a lot more and start figuring this stuff out. get your manuals and read them joints. they will help you out.

2 bars is pretty short though..i set mine to 8 most of the time

He's tellin you right. When i start with a beat i usally set it at a 4 bar loop. I'll start with an hi hat or something and build up from there.

Hey guys listen up...

I'm still strugglin with my mpc,... I've read the manual. Did what it said.
But still no answer.
My problem is,.. that when i record midi from my korg x5d, and i want to hear what i recorded (track 1). it's sounds ok. no problem with dat! but... when i skip over to a new track number (2) and change to drum1 to add my drums. and i listen to what i recorded on my keyboard. i hear my drums on the back of what i recorded. because i already loaded them up on Bank A. I dont know how to stop this.
