hello

a few of my very important sequence and program files have stopped working recently and I advise anyone who this has happened to and might have a similar type of setup to me, to take the steps I did as my MPC has been working OK for a few days straight, and I will keep an update. What I did was:

1) back up everything I could from CF card and HD onto my computer.

2) Formatted both drives (you should do this once you update to the new o.s aswell)

3) I then sorted all my sequences into the Compact Flash card which I feel is more reliable than the hard drive for my important sequences.

4) put all PGM files and samples that belong to them in the Hard drive, making sure to organise them well e.g drums folder, basses folder etc

5) backed up everything again just to make sure.

6) created a folder in the HD where I can save sequences in a SECOND place should the compact flash card fails.

lol hopefully all this long tings wont be neccesary in the next O.S but until then im not taking any risks.

I'm so depressed. :x My MPC is a great machine, if it actually worked.

Using it last night, System Errored and now no sounds at all. I guess I'm going to have to reformat again.

The strange thing is that I can preview the samples when I go to open some. But as soon as the sample is assigned to the pad. Nowt. Nothing. Zip. Jack diddly squat.

C'mon Akai, sort it the f+*$ out.

I just tried the factory reset and that brought everything back to life again. I can actually make sounds again.! Yahoo.

I haven't been able to go through ALL my files, but some of the Programs and Samples I last tried to access are gone - not all. Disappeared! Spooky-k-k-k-key.

What caused the original problem?
- I loaded a couple of Single Hit Programs like 808 kit which I DL'd from the Akaipro web site for the MPC1000
- I loaded a couple of Looped Programs. Original CDs extracted on the PC then loaded across via USB
- I had a EMU Orbit plugged in to the MIDI INa and MIDI OUTa for the first time (borrowed from a friend).
- I had all this loaded then when I went to save to HD I had System Error returned, so I saved to SD instead.
- Turned back on - no samples would sound, however they did in the Load Menu when you preview samples. But the Orbit running Input Through the MPC would trigger and the sound would pass through the MPC.

One thing I did notice after I turned the MPC back on problem was that the MIDI seemed to firing all sorts of data back and forth between the 2 devices. The MPC screen would flicker around and then freeze for a while and then do the same over and over. The Orbit was changing channels and Instruments as well.

Something else, I thought was finger trouble at first, was that I noticed when I changed to Sequence Edit and tried to turn the Velocity down on the MIDI events which were triggering the Orbit. The first event was say 70, I changed it to 100 pressed Enter and when I pressed Enter it confirmed the Vel change but also Inserted a Program Change Event.

Odd to say the least.

AKAI
I will hold us down!

Hello Marc,

What model hard drive did you install in the MPC2500? This is not something that we’ve ever experienced in Technical Support or over the phones/e-mail. I have approx. I have 27 folders in my Root directory; all containing many folders/programs/samples/sequences… no problems.

Did you try re-initializing the MPC2500 by powering up while holding in the [ERASE] button for just a few seconds?

Hope to read you soon,

Subject: Akai MPC2500 Glitch

Dear Akai Tech Support and whomever,

A major issue with my 2500 have risen which is very disturbing with my 2500. Please read the post I made in response to another at mpc-forums.com website.

Please respond to me because I have heard nothing regarding emails I have already sent to Akai support address on the website. Serial# K10509021900460. Plus I have this dark line

going down the middle of the screen of the 2500 and it wasn’t always like that. My machine never moves and is well taken care of. I turned it on and there it was. Does this need to be replaced?

I also have been getting the "wrong file" error message when I load programs that have been changed and re-saved. It drives me NUTS...

Yo this **** happened to me today! Luckily I backed up most of my stuff but I still lost some good ish!

I loaded a folder and the program file was corrupt. In program mode the instruments I used wasn’t there instead it was a bunch of mumble jumble with crazy Lvl,Tune,Range values. And this was for pads I wasn’t even using also. So I rebuilt the program with the same instruments and the same happened. I went to create another folder to save it in, within that same root folder and it froze. I couldn’t delete it. I usb'd the machine and transferred files I could save. During this process my computer would not transfer the corrupt programs and files alike, but it still would not delete that new folder that froze my 2500. during this process some of my wavs that I have reloaded many times to play ended up corrupt thus the sstorchhh I used in that program was corrupt needless to save unsalvageable. I lost data and many folders that was built IN THAT 1 ROOT FOLDER

To tell you the truth I think it has something to do with how many folders I had in a root folder. Too much. I had over 20 and some of the folders had way too many .wav files in it from me not creating programs particularly for that sequence(s). I would have unnecessary programs & .wavs saved to the folder because I may or may not have used a .wav from it that I was using for the sequences created.

I don't do that now but I used to and I believe that is the case.

New rule:

No more than 10 folders in one root folder now, along with only saving the wavs I used in it and nothing more (of course).

Those that I saved like that were when I was learning the machine but I really know better now.

I called Akai support and the dude didn’t know dik! None the less I reformatted my HD and fixed the program that corrupted in the middle of me saving.

It's for the best. Fresh start with only the files I use and saving new work properly. Hopefully this wont happen again.

This did happen again even though I back it up this is becoming a hassle.

Not good, not good at all.

I've never had this myself but i back my work up anyway first. I save the entire memory to root on the hd and memory card if there's enough space, then i'll save it again into a specific folder eg

Root
Beats
Summer Thug'N

If it crashes, at least then i've got 1 or more back ups of the song.
