I Think I am Trying To "SYNC" ...Need to go SYNTH INTO MPC?!

Any help would be great..

This is what I need to do.

I currently have an e-mu1820 soundcard box.. The mpc2000xl is connected into the E-mu.. which is connected to monitors for sound.

Just got a synth, ms2000 korg.

Is it possible to create drum loops with the Akai, then on a new track record the ms2000 sounds into the sequence. So when the sequence is played back the synth is heard, you know?

I have a Sample Kings DVD and the two dudes have a keyboard hooked up into the MPC and the keyboard records right into the sequence.. But I think they forgot to include instructions for that task, lol

I have some MIDI cables.. and some 1/4 cables

I only have memory upgrades on the Akai. Just two in's / two outs, midi in / midi out and SMPTE (??)

Is this possible?? Any help would be great, I can't wait to play with this new toy!

plug a midi cable into the MIDI OUT on the mpc then run this cable into the MIDI IN on your synth. Then plug a midi cable into the MIDI IN on the mpc then run it to the MIDI OUT on your synth. Make sure both the track you are currently wanting to record onto and the synth are the same midi channel.

^ Awesome.. But I thought MIDI does not transfer sound?? Are you familiar with the Korg Ms2000?

Exactly. Then when it plays back it plays the notes you entered into the mpc/Korg.

Read up on Midi and also the manual: Page 11 and 51

^-- So i play sounds out of the syth while recording on the mpc.. and i playback and because i had midi cables hooked up and the track on MIDI.. it will play back those synth sounds??? No way!??

What the MIDI cables allow is Data to be transfered. And NO the audio isnt comin out of the MPC the audio is still coming from your keyboard/module. The MPC is playin what u played back for you.(midi messages) Its real easy and simple.

Nicole's Tip:Read your manuals from beggining to end and apply it. Then ask questions if you are confused. Cause you will spend more time on this board than you will making beats.

AWESOME!! IT WORKS!! i was so excited i had to come home from work at lunch to test this out haha..

when i change the bank or whatever on the synth it plays a different type of sound on the mpc.. i know this synth has 4 voices.. which i believe means i can have up to 4 different noises on 4 different tracks??

So how do I use more than one midi sound .. cause if i go to a new track and make it S:MIDI ... it will just play the same type of synth noise i got on the synth... but if i change the noise it will then change the previous track .. keep the notes but change the synth sound to whatever bank its on or whatever..

i know my synth is 4 voices... so i believe i can use up to 4 different noises...??

You really need to read up on midi mate.

lets say you have drums, bass, keyboard and a guitar sound on your synth and you want them all to playback at the same time. Use Midi channel 1 for drums on your synth and set the same on the MPC. Then move to the next track on the MPC and change to midi channel 2 for the bass sounds (not forgetting to set the bass up on midi channel 2 on the synth) and so on....

It's really very simple.

Read up on midi, the pages I suggested earlier and also the manual for your synth (which incidentally does indeed only have 4-voice polyphony - 4 voices at once).
