I am so lost right now!!!

Ok, I hook up my cp to my mpc 1000 and I load a wav file to it. I loaded it onto my mpc 1000 but I could not figure out how to 1) set it to a pad and 2) edit the thing because it said I didnt have sufficient space.


I am using the 32 mb cf card that came with it. I want to scroll through some things and figure out what I want to delete but I can't figure out how to do that without deleting everything.

Could someone please help me?

Same wack stuff happenned to me when I got my first mpc. I took it back because i wasent feelin all the errors i was gettin. You just need to read the manual.

You could press the mode button and go to program. Hit the pad you want to assign the sample to and thats also how you edit the sound, in program mode.

Don't worry. Do you have a 1000? If so then hook up your 1000 to your computer and it will recognize it as a disk drive and you can organize the disk however you like. The 1000 itself doesn't store any memory its all keeped in the disk. So you save everthing in the disk and then when you want to work on the MPC you load from the disk to the MPC. So to assign to pad: 1 load the sound you want from the disk to the MPC, then 2) hit Mode program and assign to pad.

Let me get this straight, though. So only when I have my CF card in my 1000 can I access my samples, I can't ever "put" it in my mpc?

Also, I can delete stuff off my cf card through the PC?

Anyway, I have other questions but I won't ask them all. I wish I knew someone who knew a lot about the mpc's so I could kinda learn from them instead of reading straight through the owner's manual.

yeah, the CF card only acts as a local memory storage place, but because the mpc doesnt store things when u turn it off, it needs to be loaded from card each time its turned on. its important to get more ram for the mpc though, otherwise there's only 16mb of memeory in the mpc as standard.

with the ram upgrade it can go upto 128mb, which roughly holds 12min of stereo audio?(i think). so given by todays standards 128mb 'aint much, a load of huge long stereo samples/loops would fill it up quickly, i suggest smaller bits like drum/fx/hits/whatever samples, to build loops up in the mpc sequencers.

there's the HD option kit, for installing a hard drive into the mpc. does the same as the CF card but they come way bigger, i manage with a 2gb CF card.


press 'window' if it lights up as you browse 'File:....' in the directory in 'load' mode ....

- it shows the directory more clearly
- navigate back n forth with the L/R/up/dwn buttons.

also theres a 'play' button Fkey available when viewing samples, to audition them before loading,also 'delete' Fkey does what it says too.

to delete bits one at a time off the CF card, press 'window' if it lights up as you browse 'To:....' in the directory in 'save' mode ....

- see 'delete','rename','new'

So I can either buy the 128 mb cf cards which are pretty cheap, or I can go with the hard drive adapter and buy a hard drive and have like 2 gb?

with a hard drive you can save up to 80gig, or you could buy a 2gig flash card

the 128 mb ram is tha most important man get that first then the card , the cards arent much i found a 1gb card costing 60 dollars and thats hella cheap , its enough to keep you satisfied for now.

I am confused are you saying to get the 128 mb ram extension? If so where can I get them and how much do they usually run for? Any suggestions on what type, if any, to buy?

Or are you saying to get the hard drive and a big 2gb cf card?

The 128MB is for sample memory. In mono mode you can have 24 minutes sample time. The CF cards and the hard drive are media to save your programs, sequences and songs. The 128MB will hold the samples, etc. while you're makin beats. The others save your stuff for another day. A CF card reader will connect to your computer and you can see the whole card and delete/add as necessary.
