Differnce between cards?

Yo, I FINALLY got my multi card reader installed, and was about to cop some cards, then I realized, I might want to find out if some types (SD or CF), companies or capacities I should avoid or seek out.

Have any of y'all had any problems with yours? Is there an advantage to Compact Flash over Secure Digital (or vice versa)? If I don't want to partition it, what's the largest size I can use? Let me hear your advice, MPC Nation. Holla Back.

I bought a 1gig CF card from Sandisk and it works fine. I didn't have to partition it or anything, it worked with no fuss. As for the advantages between the two, CF cards are harder to lose cause they are bigger. lol!

Is that a Compact Flah or Secure Digital. I wanted to get SD, 'cause most have a write-protect switch, but I wasn't sure if one was more stable than the other. Every card has a different access speed, so that's not gonna come into play, but besides that has anyone noticed a flaw in one or the other? Seems that SD's are less expensive.

Anyone have an SD card? If so, you likey?

this aint really a problem if you are carefull, but with cfs its really easy to **** up the pins in the card or the reader if you insert them wrongly or wonkily....i have already screwed a usb card reader like this (lucily it bent over a useless pin on the outside of the row).
just a thought, i havent managed to screw the one in my 1k yet (obviously im not trying to...)

well, cf cards just seem more sturdy to me. If you ever updated to a mpc2500 the nice thing would be you could just use the same cards and not have to pay for shit twice.

ALso check out some future gear you might buy.

if you have a laptop but dont have a media card reader in it this is nice and cheap to use with the laptop pc card slot (most every laptop has one) and a cf card.

good point cyphrus, using cf gives you more compatibility with other mpc machines.

you are right Kailid, its from the front panel of the Moog Voyager series. I would love sitting in the dark with that machine creating sounds in that scifi surrealism. what joy that would be!
they just came out with a newer more affordable Rack Mount version with the blue front panel too.

On a side note, since we are talking about flash cards, do any of you guys have the SCSI PCD-47b MircoTech? I can't find a PCMIA card that will working in the type1/2/3 slot. Any suggestions about what you use in that slot would be greatly appreciated. I tried using a SanDisk 6-1 card reader but it was not able to handle my SD cards without crashing my mpc.

That's what I was thinking. Plus, the SD's are a lot smaller and have the write protect switch, but like dude said, compatibility with other MPCs is a plus as well. Thanks, as always, for the input, fellas.

So, I went home and tried to format a SD card in my MPC and no luck. My MPC can't seem to find the SD card. Won't even recognize it to format it. Seems like the MPC won't even try to access the top slot on my card reader. But if I insert and remove the CF card I have (lower slot), then the top access light comes on, but it still won't ID the card as being there. Any ideas? It's only a 512 MB SD card.

My advice is that it's not the card. Check the dip switches on the back of the drive and make sure they are set correctly.

So what would be the "correct" setting? I didn't even see any dip switches on my drive.

The jumpers settings. Do you have a manual that came wth the drive? (if so, check it). What dive is it?
