SP1200 W/ MPC 2000XL???

I was just wondering how many of you use this set-up because I'm thinking about picking one up and I needed a little advice. Thanks.

I use to I recently sold my sp1200......I liked that dirty 12 bit sound.......But I learned how to dirty up my samples for tha 12 bit effect so I sold it

Can you explain your way to dirty up your samples ?
I am curious getting info from a former SP1200 owner.

play with the filter setting in you mp.......there is no rule of how to dirty a sample.....it depends on what type of sound you are out to catch........I use to sample twice once in the sp1200 then into the mp to avoid having to play around with it like that but then one day I just started trying new stuff like what does this do and what does that do and guess what.........Your mpc has things in it that you may have never used because we get comfortable in only doing what we know how.......you paid what you paid for it......Use it try playing with those filters and see what happens

I have both machines. You could use the MPC to trigger the SP and just use the SP as a sample module. The only small problem with that is when triggering the SP externally, you can't use the regular TUNE setting. You have to change the pitch in a menu that's more hidden, which takes a bit longer and is a tiny pain in the asss. Plus, you'll need a big mixer to cover all the MPC outs and all the SP outs.

I mostly do what Phatz said: sample into the SP (turntable at 45 - then pitch back down in the SP which emphasizes the grit) and then sample it into the MPC. Then you get the sound you want, but you have the sample editing and sequence control of the MPC.

The thing some people don't talk about is that the SP sound that everyone glorifies isn't just because it's 12-bit.....the SP's output filters are a big part of that classic sound in my opinion. Some of them are set just right to make drums sound dope.

I'm agree with u guy, that's why i'm looking for setup a SP w/ my 2kXL!
Sure dat the SP filter's sound "warmmer" than the MP one's!

Hahahaha....First time of my life i read someone telling me that filtering gives dirtness......That's exactly the opposite. And you sold your SP because you can replicate the sound on your MPC Sorry i don't buy it ! There's no way you can emulate the grit and punch of the SP. This is ridiculous. that's why i asked. Man…sampling at 26khz with a 12bit resolution with those emu Analog to digital converters can not be replicate with a 16bit machine sampling at 44.1. And don't tell me you can resample…I don't use the sampler of the MPC anymore to recreate what i can do using a 12bit machine.

No disrespect but i am tired of reading the same old crap about how to replicate 80's dirtness on 2K machines

thats why I said there is no rules and it depends on what you are trying to capture......I have been playing around with this for a while and I am pleased with the results adjusting the filters and res can create a nice effect when applied but not harshly......Its all love now was done using this method......and yes I sold my sp 1200.......

you can make fantastic SLR shots of someone look as horrible and as dull as you like.

you can also make 2004 picture look like it was taken in the 80's.

its how you do it...i.e. make sure your figure is wearing an 80's look.


same with sound...

thats where Sound Designing comes in.

trust me old school 8 bit or even 12 bit can be done on software, fed through various chains...and your done.

who gives a fux about that dirty drums anymore?????? its all about crunk music and clean sounding beats.... if u wanted dirty drums sample 80s beats or just vinylize that fuxer
