Hard drive on the 4000

I hear that the 4000 has a internal hard drive does that mean you can save all of your data(sequences,samples,sequences) to the hard drive if so that means you don't need a cd rom or zip drive like on the 2kXL right?

The drive has a few purposes, if you want to use them.

You can sample audio files from a CD or import WAV files from it. This is convenient when you don't want to switch your focus to using a computer. Version 1.40 of the OS added the MEMORY TO CD function, which allows archiving of Multis, Programs, Samples, etc.

If you want all the drive functionality of the MPC4000, the CD-R/RW must be added.

To answer phatbeats question CORRECTLY:

Yes, its all you need to save all the work you do on the mpc4000. You use a function called "Save entire memory" and it saves everything (multis, programs, sequences, samples etc) thats loaded into the RAM.

Only reason you would need a cd-r installed is to either read sample-cds or similar or making an extra backup of whats on the internal harddrive.

You need to buy an MPC4000 isntead of faking your expertise with a PDF manual and misadvising prospective MPC4000 owners.

The CD-R/RW offers ARCHIVING. When the MPC hard drive fails, completed and in-progress work can be safely retrieved from CD storage. This feature adds functionality beyond the usual MPC2000XL and CDR.

As I was the first one to point out, the CD-R/RW also offers another source form which to sample. Of course Kalei had to repeat what I wrote in order to continue faking his knowledge of the MPC4000.

The question he asked was if he could SAVE his work on the mpc on the internal hd and the answer to this is undeniably: YES (which indeed makes what you said wrong hehe). What else would be the use of the internal hd?

Roland employee mv_producer is spreading false rumours about the mpc, making it look like you cant save all your work to the hd. Thats pathetic.

And for archiving its very possible to use AK.SYS to transfer stuff over to the PC/MAC and keep it on that machine's internal hd or use the cd-burner and burn a backup copy. And yes I know AK.SYS can crash when transferring large amount of data but transfer 1 song or a few programs+samples at a time and it works just fine.

And "when" the hd fails? Who says it will fail? Of course it wont last 100 years but neither will a cd. DUH.

NO you dont NEED a cd-rw, you dont NEED a zip drive for the 4k. I used my mpc4000 (oh yes i do own it) for several months without a cd-rw in it. And you dont NEED a cd-rw for "sampling" either, its very possible to do that with the computers cd-rw and then transfer it all to the INTERNAL HD IN THE 4000.

In conclusion: no you dont NEED a cd-rw/zip drive. Some things like using sample cd's will be abit easier though, a few less steps to take as compared to using the computer to read the sample cd.
