Ok ... I'll address that issue....
1. The terms and conditions were always clear from Day 1 - that any submissions to HS automatically forfeited any 'copyright' and that HS was free to 'exploit' such material as appropriate.

I had to sort out for professional use according to the standards set by 'native' HS releases done here. More often than not, this entailed more work here than originating them myself often requiring days of work for them to meet Hollow Sun's exacting standards. However, I never took credit for this work - the donor was always credited in full, often with links to their website, whatever.
Others, however, were no-brainers for me - submitted in a 'ready-to-go' format. Whatever...
When 'the product' became more of a 'commercial' entity that you somehow feel so bitter about (my move "to the dark side of captalism" as you put it), those donors remained credited.
Yes... one or two were p*ssed off and told me so (but they have largely been suitably placated) but the fact is that the vast majority of HS supporters/donors were/are happy to see me get some recompense for the free service I offered for over 4 years.
Don't forget that every donor also benefitted from the free service I offered and got far more than they ever donated... they were simply giving something back in return which was totally appreciated here and credited accordingly even though
I had to sort it all out in most cases.
As I say, one or two were p*ssed off but if you contact any of the regular and prolific donors to HS, I am sure you would get short thrift from them about how I have 'exploited' their contribution. They are more than happy that, after 4 years of selfless altruism, that I eventually got 'something back'.
And to be brutally honest, I never recouped any of my costs when HS went 'commercial'. The fact is that HS was everyone's darling WHEN IT WAS FREE but became the subject of truly offensive vitriol when the service was withdrawn (for purely economic reasons). Says more of the downloader than the provider I think!
But just to prove that this whole thing is a two-way thing, it was only the other week that I helped out a donor with some looping for some sounds he wanted to contribute to the Akai community.
It's not as cut and dried as you may think!
