transferring wav files from pc to a floppy for an mpc2000xl

Talk about frustrated. I have a S%&t load of sounds on my pc computer. I'm tryng to save wav files on a floppy then load them on my mpc2000xl. Everything i've read so far makes it sound simple. I'm fairly computer savy even tried to convert the format of the sound but when I try to load it i get ??????? in the type= area. Every blue moon i get some wierd symbols in the file menu. sampled sounds & songs on floppy loaded fine. I'm ready to start laying tracks!

most sounds are wav format and should work with the 2kxl. double check the format of the sounds. transferin sounds via floppy might take time. have u got a zip drive????

The wav files are 16bit. the mpc wont read them is there something i half to set on the mpc. I could have sworn i did this before. it's weird because when i least expect it the file will load but most of the time it says disc read error or ???? at the type. weird. Thanks for any feed back

On the PC It must be a FAT formatted floppy firstly Also this format uses the old MS-DOS fle system that has an 8 character limit. Anything beyond 8 characters and it puts a "~" symbol as an abbreviation. The MPC has trouble reading these. Also I read somewhere that the .wav extension may need to be uppercase or maybe it's lower case. Try both!

Ok you just confirmed something I was starting to see. THe file name itself has a lot to do with my problems. When i started choping long names down and leaving the .wav extension it seems to work on the money. Ok now i'm going to upgrade to a flash drive. will the same rules still apply? I guess i'll figure it out. Plus I want a good drive to connect to the 50 pin scsi port. any sugestions ( I was thinking a cd/dvd drive to get sounds off my pc) finally does any body kow if there's a limit to the size of smart media you can use? I'M HEAVY INTO SOFTWARE PRODUCTION BUT-

As long as you're transferring from a PC to your MPC you'll always have the MS-DOS limitation. The MPC's native disk format allows more characters,spaces,etc.
A zip disk is the way to go for transferring from PC to MPC. Buy two. One USB for the PC and one scsi for the MPC.
Another way to go about it is to get a scsi card for your PC so the MPC can see it as a device.

so if I get a scsi card for my pc I can then load sounds on a scsi hard drive (I heard the mpc can only read 2gigs so larger HD would be useless) then plug the hard drive back up to the mpc to load? what about a cd rom can I chain that with the HD? Please give recomendations for best HD and cd rom. I will half to install the scsi connection first to transfer the data from floppy before installing flash drive right? how big a flash card can I use? a 2gig? whats the max?

get a pc usb cf drive.

get a pc internal ide/atapi cf drive to go inside of your 2kxl.

get a 512mb cf card.

I purchased the one that "P" told me to get, works great. No problems
No expensive scsi. No "click of death" zip issues.
