Hi,

First, this isn't a technical post about MPC's so I'm sorry for posting if this doesn't belong here. I'm a newbie to the forum and the MPC2000XL as of tomorrow.

I just bought an MPC2000XL in mint condition from a friend of mine. I'm picking it up on saturday and I must say I can't wait to get my hands on this machine.

I was having doubts about the 60 II and the 2000XL. The 60 II was still about 600€ without the latest OS (so no SCSI) and the guy didn't know if the floppy drive worked since he never used that.

The 2000XL was 500€ and in absolutely perfect condition. Never been used much and always in a smoke free environment. I think it has 32MB of RAM. I'm thinking about installing a flash card reader after I get the basics down first.

So I read this forum and some on line reviews about the two machines and decided to go for the 2000XL. I don't know if that was the right choice but I'll soon figure that out.

By reading the forum this seems really like THE place to come to for questions regarding MPC's. Good job guys for taking the time to help people out.

As of tomorrow I'll be locked in my basement with my new baby for a month or so. Really looking forward to it since I read so much great comments about this machine on this board and other sites...

Bye

ahhh, I remember when I first got my 2kxl...

my advice to you:

-read the manual, or you'll be like a lot us here- 'discovering' basic features years after you've owned the thing..

-don't get discouraged if it takes you a while to get the hang of it. if you feel overwhelmed, focus in on one aspect of the beat-making process at a time. I've done some of my best work when I was frustrated and about to turn the machine off, but didn't...

-have fun with it :P

I picked it up this saturday but didn't have a chance yet to install it since I had a gig on saturday and a radio feature on sunday. I need another table to fit it on aswell.

I started reading the manual since I don't want to discover cool features after years of owning it, as you said. I was still unfamiliar with a lot of the terminology used in the manual but I think it's a good manual from what I read. Very clear and well written.

I'm gonna lock myself into my apartement over easter and try to do some basic stuff with it to see how everything works. Just exploring the machine and have fun with it before I really start making beats with it.

Very happy with it since it's in absolutely mint condition. Not a scratch to be found on the casing. It's just very tempting now to take the whole week off work...
