MPC AS THE MASTER SEQUENCER

1) What are the pros and cons of using the MPC as the master sequencer?



2) You would still have to use a software sequencer to track out your beats if you the MPC was your master sequencer, right?

I love the sequencer in my MPC2000XL, so much so that I've stopped using the sequencing functions in SONAR. I use the Triton as my midi controller for recording performances and the pads on the MPC for drums and samples.You can still use a software sequencer if you want to.

the best thing is that once the MP is loaded with sounds it's just to hammer yourself silly on those pads. i'ts much faster than any cubase or logic.
Using cubase as an example... you must select from loads of parameters and the options are so many that it's more about making choises than makin music. " which of my 10000 plugins am i gonna use for this hihat"?

Well u gonna need some kind of software to track out your beats so i disagree with dude who said NO. Inless u got a track recorder or something.

1] Pros: Ease of use associated with stand alone hardware. Integrated drum pads, control surface etc. That MPC feel that many claim exists only on the MPC sequencers.
Cons: Small screen vs. a computer sequencer. Price

2] You do not have to use a computer sequencer if you're using the MPC. You still need a way to record audio but this can be anything from a tape recorder to an answering machine. Sync options on the MPC's include SMPTE, MIDI Clock and, MIDI Time Code.

In my place, it's almost all outboard gear. The MPC is being used as the only sequencer. Everything is synced with SMPTE or MTC....Audio tracks are recorded to a multitrack recording machine then sent to an automated mixer. From there, it goes to a software mastering program. Sequenced tracks from the MPC, keyboards and modules never even get recorded as individual audio tracks. They just play as a sequence directly into the mixer until the whole thing gets mastered......
