mobile beatmaking

sup guys... i got a small question to ask you.. i got my mpc 2kxl at home in my basement studio... the only problem is with school and work and the time it taakes me to take the bus... i barely h ave time to creat any beats... sure i do some late nights.. but its really hard with school at 6 am the next day....i do what i can... its really hard with 5 hours a day of traveling plus school plus gym... anyways i was askin myself... i could use the time im in the bus to actually practice makin beats.... so heres my question

is there anything portable that i could take with me to make small beats... nothin big... i heard about this machine streetboxx... any good?

i know akai is the way to go thats y i got my mpc.... but if theres any products that are not akai adn that i could use please let me know

Get you a Boss SP sampler. And u good to go fam.

Old school game boy + production software. My friend Ben made some cool tracks with just that.

TR-606 is my weapon of choice, but it aint self-contained.

The BOSS ish is cool too, but I've never owned one myself. Im gonna buy an sp-202 for my kid as soon as he's old enough to wear headphones, though.

Does your school have a music program, sometimes you can get credit for making beats, use their studio and equipment. My school had protools and samplers, actually a bunch of stuff. You would have to book your time weekly and that was the biggest problem, getting studio time.

sp202 runs on batteries

606 runs on batteries

gameboy runs on batteries

all of them also can accept an AC adaptor

SP 404, is supposed to be Tight for that.
<------TR-606 or TR-505 are both good, 606 has more electro type sounds.
Gameboy with "nanoloop" or "lsdj", they have a learning curve though.
I think the PSP might have some beat makin' stuff too, don't know for sure though.

co-sign on the sp-404, it's a nice machine for mobile beatmaking (no MPC though but battery operated + ridiculous long sampling time + resampling)

Cheap laptop and Fruity Loops would be by far the best for the money. It takes very litle processor to flip samples. You could also get an mpd-16 for $99 now. That would give you the control of an MPC.... remember the Dre commercial on the plane?

Didn't Dre have mpc 3000 LE on the plane?

Definatly SP-404 !! i got myself one as well for mobile beatmaking.... the only thing you gotta have is creativity and you gotta be inventive!
there's only one **** and thats that you cant copy your patterns. i was wonderin how you can really get down when you have to play all your drums and shit over and over if you wanna make your pattern longer or you wanna start a new pattern. eventually i figured you just record your drumloop or whatever (as long its a loop) to another recording device and resample it from there as long as you want you pattern to be.
so whats normally a track on your mpc you can now have as a big sample.
so if you really wanna get down besides the 404 you need a little portable recording device... Minidisc or something if you're not an audiophile otherwise portable DAT or portable multitracker or even an mp3 player which can record as well.
