Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000
By Dark Knight Sat Jan 17, 2004 8:40 pm
After months of trying to figure out what to get I went with the MPC4000. Now several people tell me there is some type of bug that causes it to crash and that is why they sold the units. Has anybody had or has the same problems or other problems? Please let me know. Maybe we can all get on several buses and go down to AKAI and protest or buy a box full of RAID bug spray!

Dark Knight,

The Yahoo! group has an informal list of bugs in their database. Join the group to read the bug list and forum messages.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mpc4000/d ... Rows&tbl=2

Add to that list a performance problem when more than 256 MB of samples is used. Like most MPC4000 owners, I rarely need more than 256 MB of samples in memory at one time. The trouble is little understood and rarely reported because so few owners have 512 MB.

I confirmed the machine slowdown by spending a few hours one day loading a lot of samples of various sizes. Using defrag doesn't always elminate the trouble. You have to power cycle the MPC. It is probably caused by a combination of hardware and an OS bug. The processor can't access the data fast enough and some OS bug causes a malfunction when a lot of samples are used. Hopefully, AKAI will fix this with the blue MPC4000 and OS 1.50.

Bugs for sure in 1.50. stick with 1.45.
Blue or white same machine, don't listen to the hype.

It isn't hype. There is mounting evidence that the blue edition will have some hardware improvements. That issue is better covered in a different thread. Let's just say that you're going to find out soon.

too bad for "white MPC 4000" owners if it's true
where did you get the info by the way ?

Comon dude, I read all the yahoo threads, that shit started as a rumor!! Shouldn't you be starting a MV forum, something other then trolling around trying to discredit the 4000? I'm glad you love the MV, but you're really putting yourself out there with all your 4000 bashing. Ever thing you post is negative in regards to the MPC and its getting boring. So who cares what you use, whatever works but don’t go trying to convert everyone like your a Jehovah Witness. Your worse then a pop up add.

Cut the MV c-r-a-p and the troll c-r-a-p. I own two MPC4000's. Enough of these stupid lies of your's and others already.

This isn't 4000 bashing, so grow up for Christ's sake. It isn't possible to discuss anything anymore with fools like you rushing to judgement with an immediate, highly negative counterpost.

Re-read the Yahoo! posts. ALL of them -- the entire YEAR. Then re-read them again. Then read them once more. And then talk to people like myself who have owned AKAI equipment for over 10 years. We've been through it before. Your inexperience isn't going to change reality.

I could write an entire page about what is going to happen soon, but since you would rather be a know-it-all-smart- a-s-s than a listener I will keep you in the dark where you belong.
