MCD kit from VST: Jumper help!

I got the MCD card reader kit from VST and I am just in the middle of installing it.
The sheet they include is for the ZIP drive and the illustrated jumper setting looks different from the Card reader.
It looks like the zip had 3 or 4 pin pairs but the card reader only has two.
Can anyone here confirm what pins the jumper goes on to set it as
master?
I guess i could do it by process of elimination but I don't want to risk anything.

OK so i read the instructions a little more carefully and although they are refering to the ZIP drive, they say to put the jumper on the pins closest to the power plug. I have done this. Is there a sure fire way to confirm that it's set as master before I go and copy my Zips over to CF cards?
I formatted an old CF card I had lying around but I don't want to f**k with my sounds just yet. Formatting went smoothly enough.

It's not going to blow up if you get it wrong.
It just won't work that's all.

ye just try diff setting.. leave the back of your MPC2KXL open and stand it up on its side... plug in power and power it on.. see if it loads/saves... if not take power cord out.. and re adjust jumpers.. do the same thing till you got it down

I got my MCD drive from VST also, and I just put the jumper all the way to the right, like the instructions said. I figured it didn't matter how many pins I had, the install guide said vertically on the 2 pins closest to the power cable (I'm paraprashing, I don't have the instructions with me). Although, that could be why my MPC won't recognize the top slot of my drive [See related post: http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=47992 ] but prolly not. Peace1

I just heard back from VST and it seems that they just now realized the error of thier instructions and here's what they said:

"Unfortunately we just recently found out that the instructions for installation show an innacurate picture for the jumper setting. The jumper needs to be next to the larger data cable connection so that it is set on master."

So there you go. Solves both of our problems. Now I have to take my baby apart AGAIN!!! Got-dammit!

Good thing I have been preoccupied since I installed the MCD and haven't been using the MPC. Nice catch M.ic P.ro C.rusher.
I like the quality of the VST kit and cables and their ordering service but you think they could spring for something better than a heavily rephotocoppied sheet of instructions that refers to a ZIP drive.

One of you should scan those instructions and post them. I ordered the cables from VST but bought the MCD device elswhere. I'm hoping these cables work and I won't have to sodder them or nothing.

I dont have the instructions with me, but its hella easy.



Remove the self-tap screws from around the edge of the bottom panel.

Remove the two machine screws that are in the valley/indent on the bottom.

Remove the bottom panel

Disconnect the floppy drive's power and ribbon cable from the circuit board. (you'll have to cut the tie holding the cables together unless you want to leave the floppy power cable chillin in your MPC, if you do leave the cables, you also have to disconnect the power cable from the floppy drive).

Remove the 2 other machine screws near the front of the drive, and slide the drive out.

Make sure the MCD drive's jumper is set properly (vertically next to the ribbon socket on the one you get from VST), then attach the supplied power cable to the MCD drive. Attach the supplied ribbon cable to the MCD drive and lay it down over the drive towards the front of it, then bending the ribbon up and to the left, fold it in a 90 degree angle.

Slide the drive in. Attach the power cable to where the floppy power was conected. Attach the ribbon cable to the socket that the floppy WAS NOT connect to (the right hand one if the front of the machine is toward you)

Using the shorter machine screws supplied, anchor the drive where you last removed the other, longer machine screws.

Put everything back together, but replace the other 2 machine screws in the valley/indent with the shorter supplied machine screws.

Thats pretty much it!

Hope this helps, remeber to avoid static shock to your MPC or any drives you are installing. Peace1
