turning off chords for synth that cant do chords

in the mpc1000 u can record chords witch is all fine and dandy but i got an emx1 as a soundmodule and it dont like chords nor do i want it to record chords, how can i tell my mpc not to record chords for that synth? and is there a way so when i record a performance that it replaces the old note with a new one instead of keeping the old note with the new one added?

I know what you're saying ... the EMX-1 has five monopohonic synth parts ... but don't quite understand the rest of your question.

Cant you just press record instead of overdub?

record will replace any notes that were on the track, overdub will mix them (and in your case give you chords).

well heres the problem say if i have a note recorded at 1:02:00 the mpc will keep recording even after the bar it will switch to overdub and continue recording even passed 1:02:00 now this is normal, but because my synth is monophonic its a problem. so say if the note was recorded at 1:02:00 but its decay is as long as one measure or less anything recorded in overdub will sound like its sliding. even if i recoreded a different note than the note on 1:02:00 on the sametime as this one it will record it as a chord. now u say why dont u use rec instead of overdub well thast because rec erases anything in its path. what i want the mpc to do is erase anything that is bein played now. this way i dont have an accidental chord recording as well as a slide. is there a way to make the stepsequencer in the mpc1000 monophonic for monophonic synths?

Ok I see. There is a command on a lot of midi sequeners called Force Legato. Basicaly does what you want, makes sure none of the notes overlap.

Don't think the mpc has anything like that tho.

ya about legato i always use it with my emx1. but the question i have isnt for the emx i know how to turn on legato for the synth i have and i know the emx1 stepsequencer works perfect with the synth parts, but heres my crossroads i either use the emx1 stepsequencer or use the mpc1000 step sequencer or jsut change midi cables and have emx1 be a seperate box in slave to mpc1000. me i love the mpc1000 sequencer and it be a waste of mola if i didnt use it that and i love it to much to let it go, . i would love to know how to have legato working on my mpc1000, the mpc1000 has an option of turning on mono for samples witch is legato in program witch is dandy for samples jsut not for soundmodules, if mpc1000 could allow me to use that in params for midi i be set and i wouldnt be asking these questions.

but there has to be a way. they cant just sell an mpc1000 knowing someone could hook up a tb303. please reply back

I was talking about a sequencer function not a synth one, they are different.

Actually legato in a sequencer takes out any gaps in the notes so they all blend together (this is editing the notes, has nothing to do with the mono/legato switch in a synth). I was wrongon that, been a while since I've looked at that function.

What I meant to say was that in Sx3 you have a function called "restrict polyphony". What this does is takes any notes that are chords and makes them only play one note at any given time (or 2 or more, you choose).


As far as the mpc I'll have to think about it more.

hey guys this is no new discovery, but in the mpc1000 u can change the duration witch is jsut as good having a cut off of a notes hold witch is my issue with the sliding. but ya if u go into mode+seq edit ull see in edit: duration.

in here u can add how long u want the hold to be for that note or more notes, play with with it some... u can even change an entire group of notes velocity and other things as well, im still learning my mpc1000 but ya if theres other tips u guys have as to how to record notes in without replacing old ones in the rec path that be great, thats like the last question i have for now.

hmm let me fix that last question up some. ok have u all used fruityloops stepsequencer before? if so u remember that when u record it doesnt delete old steps but if say u pressd a key at the time when there was already a note on that step it will be replaced with the new note. this sounds already like the rec funtion in the mpc1000. thing is the mpc1000 rec deletes anything in its path so we are stuck with overdub to add new notes. is there a way to have a fruityloops style recording withn the mpc1000?
