How do I adjust my pads to stop play when I tap again????

I know it's a stupid basic question, but I can not figure out how to do this (I looked in the manuel and on the internet)......I just got an mpc2000xl Limited edition and can not figure out how to change my pads from overlapping the sound if I hit them twice. I want the sound to stop when I hit the pad again,but instead if I hava 5 sec sample (for example) when I hit the pad it will play the sample in full and if I hit the same pad while the sample is playing it over laps the sound and it's a pain cause I have to wait for the sample to finish playing before I can move on????HELP PLAESE!!!!

so let me get this straight, you want to hit the pad that is like a 5 second sample then hit the same pad 3 seconds later and have the sample stop? i dont think it works that way though i am semi new to the mpc. theres 2 ways you could simulate this function though. 1 would be to set the pad to note off and you would just hold the pad down for as long as you wanted it to play. the second would be to sample some slinece, assign that to another pad and set the silence pad to cut off the sample pad.

if i was wrong and you just want the sample to start over when hit the pad without over lapping, set the pad to mono instead of poly.

Good idea. But isn't that what this forum is for also? Everybody helping each other out when needed? No matter how elementary the question may be? I hope so. Because even if I ask simple question and the answer may be "you have to plug the MPC into the outlet for power...", I would like for somebody to help me out.

I'm not going to handhold anyone through plugging in a power cord. Sorry. That's asking a bit too much. I'd point them to the manual though.

The forum is for asking questions and getting answers yes, me, I'm not for handholding on simple tasks that are spelled out in the manual.

If your gonna buy gear, expensive gear you should have already gone through the manual after the initial "I got a new toy" phase. Which in turn would have killed many future basic questions.

Besides, wouldn't it be quicker to look it up in the manual than have to wait around for someone to answer. Especially when later found out the question is basic and known to be in the manual?

I even put the page number up, that's helping someone help themselves..

After you've been on this forum for awhile, answering the same questions over and over and over and over... (get the point?)...again just gets old.
Thats why it's easier to read the manual or do a search on the subject you have a question about.

at least he was honest.. and knew what it was from the get go..

I disagree. There are going to be more MPC newbies and not so newbie who will come in here and ask a question that's been asked a thousand times. I'll help them every time if I can. I guess that's because I would want someone to help me. So why not give others a helping hand if you know you can help them? I'm sure all of us have asked a question in hear that's in the manual but didn't quite understand it. That is unless you help design and build the MPC. I've asked tons of questions regarding installing and MCD and I've gotten more help in here than any manual or instructions would have given me.

So anyway, ya'll do what you feel. But I know everybody needs help from time to time, and if you want to recieve help you should give it whenever possible.

If you don't like the question, don't reply? You act like it's your job to answer these questions.......No body is makeing you answer these stupid questions. So why complain when they are asked????? Just ignore it! And I did look in the book and the internent for the answer before I asked but I did not know the term for what I was trying to do so I could not find anything.
