Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Parkertron Thu Apr 13, 2006 1:22 pm
I use my MPC's live and want to play my songs one after the other. I'm sure the newer MP's that have usb load very quickly. My MPC2000xl tunes always take up just about the whole memory, meanin' they're a real problem to load up quickly. I'm thinkin' the 4000 would be best but would like some other opinions and time estimates please?

usb is just for mass storage. not loading directly into the sequencer.

Maybe you mean loading directly into sequencer..

the 1k and 25k smoke all others. I Don't know which is faster between those 2, but my 1k smokes the 4k that I have in every process.

Load times are usually more dependent on the storage medium than the machine.

Save the same file on a 100MB zip and a 250MB zip. The 250 loads WAY faster.

Cards have write/read speeds, just like zip, floppy, or CD/DVD optical drives.

Peep out www.tigerdirect.com, they have the speeds of the cards in thier descriptions. I'm not saying that the newer MPC's don't load faster, I don't know, but I know that the storage meduim makes a HUGE difference.

Thanks very much fellas! And yes, I do mean loadin' my parts into the sequencer to play my song. Very interesting point about the zip 100's and 250's. You can use a 250 on an xl can't you? Might get one of them.

You'd get better longevity with a cf drive, and a slightly quicker load/save time than zip.

Seriously man, I won't go into detail here. But it is just another means of storage (as opposed to ZIP/Floppy). But it has its advantages over the other formats.

If you open the seach function and type in "card AND reader" (without the "), and on top of that, select the MPC2000xl, MPC2000 forum to be the only forum searched, you will find plenty of relevant information. Information like What drives work and which ones don't, Where to buy them, How to install them, What type of media to use, Operating System compatibility, and of course, Why it's better than the more traditional ZIP/Floppy drive.

Any problems, let us know.
