I have a really dense sequence going on and when my loop comes around back to bar one some of the notes come in a bit off. MPC sure is tight but if you push it to its limit it will choke a little. I dont think they really meant us to use all 32 voices, hehe. Must be so you can stack sounds on one pad for layering which I assume always play tight on top of each other. Do love the feel of it tho but I'll be getting an Akai S5000 again to take some load off this 1000. Then again my old mpc3000 used to skip notes sometimes too. Forget these things arent perfect.

bar one is off? maybe its how you're recording it? if you're recording with timing off, then put just the first note on 1/16 and leave the rest off and maybe that will help?

The notes are recorded fine. It's only an issue when I have about 18 tracks playing at once. I solved the problem by moving someof the notes (like strings) so they dont hit right on the 1 (basically moved over a few ticks). That way the stuff I want to be tight is.

Basically I have a pretty dense house track I did in Sx3 that I then exported each part into the mpc. So its playing a fairly complicated amount of parts, something it was probably not designed to handle.

Was just letting people know that the timing can drift once you start layering a lot of tracks on top of each other all trying to play at the same time.

dudes got a point, and the reason why is because the mpc1000 (i guess) was never tested properly to see if it actually can play x amount of tracks at once.

i dunno, man...i've gone past 20 and my timing has always been good, polyphony has always been good...and my stuff is dense as hell....

The problem with my sequence is that I had exported everything as 2-4 bar loops. A lot of them didnt actually have aduio hitting rght on the 1. The audio might come in say a 1/4 note later. So really I had stuff coming in on the 1 that didn't need to be.

So I had basically 18 things all coming in on the 1. And since they are 2-4 bar loops if one of them is off by a bit you hear it for the duration of the loop. Meaning for the whole 2-4 bars that loop sounds off.

Since you chop everything nym you wouldnt hear it as much, maybe you had one note go off but its just a slice so you dont hear it but for a split second.

For the person asking why had so many tracks. In reality I would not have all of these tracks playing at once but was mainly testing the mpc to see how much it could handle.

And to Nym I think your method of chopping is going to hide any of these problems I've had. I have no doubt you havent had these problems. At the same time understand that I have experienced them and they do exist, not making this stuff up hehe.

Anyways I have managed to edit my seq/samples so now everything is tight. Was just saying it is possible to make the mpc choke. If you ever want to try it just export a bunch of 2 bar loops out of reason or whatever and line them all up so they play on the 1-3-5-9 etc. and then listen and I bet youll hear some of them slip.

Was this all 20 playing at the same time? And ho wmany notes did you have hitting right at bar 1? Thats the key. Ya you can have 20 tracks going but if you space out the notes you wont hear it.

In my example this was the way I'd arrange in sx3 cos I always end up bouncign everything as loops to arrange. MPC just cant handle that kind of thing. You have to give it some room to breathe.

there were times when i was convinced i'd be using up the polyphony because i was creating a rhythm orchestra, essentially, on my song "made flesh." there's a point when it's so dense that i was convinced i would have problems, but no.

yeah they all hit on the 1, too, or at least i'm pretty sure.

i'd like to hear your example. you think you can zip up your project and yousendit to me? no biting, i just wanna see what's going on and if i can recognize the same timing issues in any of my own work, albeit split second.

thanks, good luck with this, and chop small....rock on
