This could have been the best MPC ever!! But no they had to make it so we continue to spend more mony and have more complications! the BASTARDS!!

No USB connection to ZIP! is the worst shit ever! how could they? connect the damn thing to the pc? thats some real bullshit!! and whats this about no reverse sample? I'm confused why produce such a product thats not suiting the needs of what we need! Flash Card ? what the hell is a flash card? that some periphial money making bull shit!

Moderator I so apologise for my outburst, I was so looking forward to getting one, especially that there cheaper than a XL, I have written numourous letters to Akai about the appalling performance since the 4000 saga. Anyway, peoples I believe if we all get at them we will get what we want.

I sent this email to them today!

!*Foward this on to the Necessary dept of which this will concern*!

Hi, I have been a loyal Akai Customer for 8 Years, and have often benefited from your choices of connectivity to external storage devices, however i must stress to you with utmost importance that making the MPC1000 with a USB slave connection was the worst idea ever. In a sense you prevent the user from sucessfully transfering old .pgm .wavs etc The use of smart cards have never taken off and probably never will, there to small and easily get lost. To connect a pc to a mpc sounds great but to whose benefit? It only reads from the smartcard. I'm sure u have recieved many complaints about this, If possible can you re-think your desgin and make a product that we can actually have no problems useing. Why should there always be a downside?
Do you want another MPC4000 situation? I think not. Please consider this email's point of view for I am now searching other possible means to making music without the means of Akai, along with a great deal of other music professionals such as my self.

Yours Faithfully

I understand that making a product that does not have all what its predecessers had is a supposedly good way of making money, but the throwback to that is, you loose your old customers that had been therefore them all along, not to mention young hardcore pc people such as my self who really on the use of connectivity between pcs and other devices. I just cant believe a simple thing as allowing a zip drive not to be used so dissapoints me.

I am sorry you feel that way but its actually zip drives that are on there way out. Solid state (no moving parts) are where removable storage devices are heading....they have many advantages over discs. Anyway that is my 2cents worth :D

DON'T BUY THE 1000. And if you had purchased it with out researching up on it then you're a chimp.

The problems you have mentioned are of concern but in no way reflects the general feeling about this product. Penfold if you take the time to read the numerous posts in this forum, you'll find your views are not echoed here. If you are using an older MPC then continue to do so and wait until Akai or a competitor develops a machine that will suit your needs.

One other thing, make sure when you formulate an argument you mention items correctly; it not smartmedia, IT'S COMPACT FLASH. First of all COMPACT FLASH loads and saves much faster than ZIP disks and its potential capacity (2 gigs) surpasses any zip. As well its ability to connect to the PC is invaluable since it efficiently enables you to backup your work onto the PC. Its connectability to the PC allows you to easily perform such functions as REVERSE SAMPLE in numerous software programs then import it into the MPC after (but this maybe time consuming if you do this a lot.)

In my opinion the only real down-side is if you really want to maximize the performance of the 1000 I feel that it would optimal to own and utilize a PC (keep in mind this is my opinion.)

Lastly, I love my 1000, it’s so compact that I can put it on my night stand and bang out some beats while I bang my girl, what could be better than that. AWWWWWW YAAAAAAA.

Penfold:

" In a sense you prevent the user from sucessfully transfering old .pgm .wavs etc " Prevent? WTF? Transfer your old .pgm to your PC and then from your PC to MPC1000. I don't see where is the problem.

"The use of smart cards have never taken off and probably never will, there to small and easily get lost." Go do some research on the web. Everyday, there are more and more devices coming out with the CF slot. Besides if you are going to wright a serious e-mail to AKAI, I suggest you use some strong arguments. Stuff like: "CF cards are to small and easily to get lost" , man...this is the wickest s_it I ever heard. I'm pretty sure AKAI just ignored you.

Thanks for making me laugh with those childish arguments :)

I just got my 1000, my first MPC ever a week ago. I think they did a pretty good job on creating a new budjet MPC. For the price point I think they did a really good job. I do hate how I have to unplug my USB connection to get out of USB mode and I am hoping they fix that in software. Not holding my breath. IMO the 1000 is and entry level MPC. IF you are new to MPCs then AKAI did a pretty good job if not an excellent one. If you have been using MPCs for a while then you should just stick with what you have. Why do so many of us think we have to buy the new version of things when they come out then complain.

I wouldn't get rid of any other MPC to get a 1000, but I think it is an excellent MPC to start with or accept for what it is if you need a new MPC.

Verry happy with mine.

I've been doing research on the MPC1000 (called Akai, checked this and their website etc) and from my research i gotta get one - It's a MPC with the computer based musician in mind - that's why i sold my 2000xl - Zips and floppys are weak - Reverse is not the only thing that makes a jam - sounds like you should have asked some ???'s before you dropped the dough - I'll buy yours from you if you don't like it that much - I can't wait till I get mine!!!!!!!

That is not FIXING a problem, it is AVOIDING it. I'm pretty sure Akai will fix that in one of the upcomming OS updates.

Ok guys, i have read all your posts and I agree, maybe my argument stands on its own, possibly causewe all use our MPC's differently. (probably cause I got a bucket load of Zips disks!)
However I still feel somewhat cheated. Thanks for your comments.

There are SO many small things that MPC owners can fix for themselves than to rely/wait on certain fixes. Granted not everything can be worked around but with some thought into certain production techniques people would have far few questions to be asked.. I feel what your saying Shyda.. Dare I say people are just to lazy to experiment to see what can be done for themselves??

Some are and some aren't.. I'm not..
