Da **** do you need 512mb of RAM for? I doubt they'll ever update the OS ever again considering there are two newer MPCs on the market. Updating an older model kinda defeats the purpose of buying a 1k or 4k.

yeah going to the other extreme i had a 3 track techno mix ( a la jeff mills) that fit all on one floppy.....512MB? i would just get a s5000 for serious sampling and let the mpc do what its good at....

Is there any place that i can download the latest os, since i bought my machine used and just noticed yesterday that the previous owner hadn't upgraded?
I tried the akai site but there was nothing.
I also tried the search but i couldn't find it.

Akai have no interest in putting countless man hours into updating the XL OS - it's old and has no more room for any new features. They are a business who like to make money like any other business, so will want to invest their time and money into creating new products like the MPC1000.

The only person who would update the OS would be an independant programmer (like Roger Linn and his MPC60 updates), but I'm sure such a person would rather be earning £100/hour working for a software company like Microsoft than making OS updates for a niche audio product owned by only a handful of people (comparitively speaking). Of course, that also depends on whether or not the OS CAN be updated, but we all know that there is not any room left for this - not unless other features are dropped.

MPC2500 springs to mind...

So i'm a litte :( ... No update for a good working tool discribe as a "pro" one's... MPC 2500... it sound like disrespect from Akai to 2KXL owners...
In other words, 4K owners said " 4K OS's is a pity", just like S5000/6000
OS when they came out!!! Z4/Z8 are commercial checks (in a world of softs like Kontakt!!). So how could you mind a new MP'll be a success? It will sound more pro if "Akai Professional" mind to update OS on what has stood the test and respct customers, 2KXL isn't a old unit!! OK, they like to make money... in this state of mind,no more with ME!!!

Respect in all aspect.

Just to clarify what I said - as I have no affiliation to Akai, I am only assuming they will not ever make a new XL OS

As to the MPC2500 - no, I know nothing about this - it's a rumour I've only heard on these very forums about an improved version of the XL (hardware and software) - it's been talked about for years. Whether there's any fact in this, I don't know - maybe wishful thinking for some people, or maybe just the working name for the MPC1000.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about the goings on in Akai, I've only ever communicated with them twice in my life, once to ask for a link to MPC-Tutor from their US site, and once to thank them for the link. :)

hmm.. i wonder what os version i have...how can check it?

To TUTOR.
I wasn't trying to discredit you anyway, trust me!!
As a musican when I ear "pro" dat means "professional", and Akai sound's rather as "Akai Industrial" for me now...
When you know that TOP Producers worldwhile use the XL, i wouldn't say that, going further on a OS is a wasting time.
Once again Akai will probably never see my money again!!

Take care.

Ahh!!! the old subject of the Akai 2500 rears its head again (and probally not for the last time)! Headz need to check the plain and simple facts on this one. The truth is that if this were ever to happen, the unit would have been done, shipped out and on the shelf from way back when. The 2Kxl will remain the 2Kxl, hence the 1k.
Making the 2500 would be a bad move because it would achieve nothing.
I mean, how many people with a 2kXL or any other model for that fact have gone out and spent hard earned money on a 1000? If so why? What is if the 1000 can do that the 2kxl can't - and why not the 4K?
