New to sampling

Hi everybody, I'm knew to sampling and I bought a Akai S900 sampler. I just wanted to know what's the best genre of music to look for some drum samples. Right now I'm just trying to build some drum kits and get good with my 900. Like Funk, Jazz, or Soul? or probably just all three right? And yes I know you can get drums from any genre of music but I love the drums of these ones that I've mentioned.

You can find Drums in Any Genre, Cop a Portable TT and take it with you when you dig.

I'd like to know some tips on this subject too. I've been having a hard time finding open, I mean really OPEN, drums on vinyl. I don't want a hat all over my kick or snare, just OPEN shiz.

I've been doing some e-digging lately. I'll download some old Jazz, Funk or Soul songs and if they have an nice open hit, I'll chop it for reference. Then the next time I go digging, I'll have some records to look for...and I know they got sumthin good on 'em!

you need to learn to filter and eqand to find open samples like that you have to dig they dont come easy time and work is enolved.

dont sweat it.

there is no specific genre.
it just takes time, effort, trial&error, instinct, etc.
you can get your knowledge up on certain years, labels, artists, session players, etc.
until you know what you want, or are willing to start gambling with your knowledge, i'd stick with the dollar bins.

check the sample FAQ, and peruse these forums for people's finds to get an idea of what kinda stuff is out there...albeit, already discovered.

like e.d.e. said, they don't come easy. but really thats the beauty of it, not having it handed to you rather madd time spent diggin and listening. not sure if you the type to skim over a record but if so i would suggest listening all the way thru, sometimes those breaks or open drum hits are short and easy to miss otherwise.
