Mp3 sampling - really that bad?

I am not trying to start a fight here but I just wanna know how you guys feel about this:

Why is sampling mp3's considered a big no-no in hiphop production? Why is vinyl sampling so much better?

(These are not neceseraly my opinions, but I just want to know yours )

Because mp3's sound like butt and vinyl sounds like butter...especially the low frequencies.

Personally I think Vinyl Is better for the cracklin grimmyness. Especially the way bass comes out on 45's. The thrill of the hunt and the things you learn by seeing the record over hearing about some person on the net thats there cause they've been sampled a plethera of times.
But If you DL a sample your truly the only one thats going to know so you gotta ask yourself if you care.

I sample from MP3 all the time... you get (depends on source of audio) a cleaner sound(sorry that dusty sound was something of the 90's... not saying its bad). I sometimes buy cd's and rip them and then just have the mp3's sitting there at my disposal whenever I feel like chopping them, instead of having to dig through my records and find it and turn on my table and mixer, etc etc...

anyways... audio is audio

and if u worried about what the next no name producer thinks... just dont mention what teh source of the audio was

biggest thing bout sampling vinyl is the control. i like being able to fast forward and rewind by hand and needle drop to skim thru the record. the sound to me is basically the same and with some basic engineering knowledge you can clean up most mp3s and make em sound just like a vinyl source. i just perfer vinyl cause i can literatly see the music.

sampling is taking shit from any available resource and yes it is bad to vinyl purist, but do you mayn. now biting how someone did something and passing it along as yours is just wrong. but taking shit from mp3's isnt as bad. as long as you feel what your doing. sounds sounds sounds. you can tweak things to give it that vinyl feel. so im not in agreement with all of you guys.but do you man. disregard all others and if you feel something you found on mp3 do it. **** it just do you. period

i just love getting dust in my nose looking thru piles of old records-
the feel-smell-sound-
it all just adventure for me-then when i get home and fire up
my daily bread-it all just seems to come together-not like sittin there
looking thru harddrives and websites-its way more real and physical-gets me more involved-like makin stuff outta clay and paint instead of photoshop,etc-
but ya know,if i find the right cd in my travels,i'll sample the shit out of it-
but give me the same stuff on vinyl,i take that instead-
once sampled and living on the mpc,doesnt matter as much to me-

If you rip from a CD then you shouldn't be ripping to MP3 because it sounds like ass compared to a wav file. So never rip from CD onto MP3 - you're just degrading the sound. Always rip to wav for sampling.

I've sampled MP3s in the past, but I mainly use vinyl nowadays. I don't really see anything wrong with sampling MP3s but it's definitely not preferable for me. Vinyl just sounds better to my ears, plus you're never going to get that rare untapped source in MP3 format - you gotta go looking for those records with your hands, eyes and ears - not a mouse, keyboard and monitor.

i sample anything I like: records, tapes, tv, mp3 vhs, dvd . . .etc. And if i'm sampling a mp3 or any sound file and i want control, i just throw that file into scratch live - all the control i want.

yup same. mp3 or vinyl i sample whatever is hot. more stuff on vinyl than on mp3 tho. its hard to find hot tracks to sample on mp3. there's a lot more music out there to sample taht's on vinyl
