MPC1000 Hard Drive Recommendations

40 GB Hitachi Travelstar HD 5400rpm. Completely silent.

Whats about the overview on the display with a hard drive in the mpc1000
so i mean if you have a big hd inside the overview will get lost?

there are some new features or another look in the software if an hard drive is installed?
or ist the default save/load look as always??

OEM = "Original Equipment Manufacturer"
the difference between an "retail" packed

so for example if u buy an retail packed Cd-rom Drive
there are also the
#user guide
#software
#cables and some other things inside

OEM i thing is only the produkt
but i thing as normal hard drives get sells with OEM
"you don`t need more to use it"

oem stuff tends to be slightly cheaper too.

Toshiba 80GB Hard Drive
IDE, 5,400 RPM, 8 MB
Toshiba - MK8032GAX

Installed and it is working as far as I can tell. I haven't had time to really sample on to it yet. It definetly read all the 80 GBs though.

BTW, something confusing to me that may not be to others. In order for the MPC to read the drive initially, I had to delete everything off the hard drive so it would format it.

Dont know if that would help anyone.

ok i pretty frigin new at this but i understand why u need more ram in ur mpc but howcome u need a harddrive, what do they do for the mpc? is it just to hold ur samples and kits instead of a CF?

you guessed correctly. for more storage at a cheaper price, it would be a smart move to by a hard drive than a cf card.

What's the cheapest place to buy the HDM10?

I also have an old drive and wonder if anyone knows if it will work before I invest in the HDM10, it's an IBM Travelstar model: DJSA-220, 20Gb ATA/IDE 4200RPM.

the cheapest from what i understand is from VST.... $25.00 plus shipping. but akai has them for $29.00 and their shipping is (within the us) around $5.00-$6.00


i'm not sure about the particular drive you have but if you read through this thread, i'm sure there were others here that used a travelstar drive.

Upon consultation with this forum, i got a Samsung HM 100JC 100GB drive and it works a treat with the MPC1000 (just got it last week). It recognises all 100 gigs.

I have noticed that the MPC gets a little bit hotter now though.

I installed my old 20GB IBM and the MPC recognize it only after formatting it inside the MPC, but only shows 2GB. I guess I have to upgrade my OS. How can I read on the screen what OS version I currently have?

The HD is also a bit noisey now or the MPC turned from a silence device to a bit buzzing! Do you all experience this?

A side note, where can I find the "Slice" function to slide a drum kit? Thanks all.

put it all normal...it gets through to about 72% and then fails on me. Is this bad RAM or what? It is Patriot 256mb PC 133 CL3 SO-DIMM....not sure whats going on...please help

Press the MODE button and PAD 10 (OTHER). On the top left of the display, you'll see the version number. It's definitely not 2.10, since your MPC won't recognize anything over 2gb with any version before 2.0. So go to Akai's website, download the new OS 2.10 and the instructions for updating. If you have any problems updsting, do a search on this forum and you'll find all the answers you need.

The hard drive you're using is a bit dated, so they aren't as quiet as what's currently on the market. I'm using a 6gb Travelstar that's 7 years old, and it's very noisy. It works as it should, so I don't mind. When I fill the hard drive to it's capacity, then I'll pick up the Toshiba 40gb. For now I'm good with all the drive space I have left. So I'm sure your 20gb will keep you straight for a while, unless you want to eliminate the noise and buy a new drive.

The MPC don't like Patriot ram, from what I recall. Your best bet would be to search through this thread and look for the Kingston ram that's been recommened here. Just return that Patriot ram as soon as you can.
