Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

using OS 1.14 on a mpc2kxl.. i installed a MCD drive last week, been working fine with my sony memory stick. i finally got a 1GB kingston compact flash card today. unfortuneately, OS 1.14 will only accept a 512 MB CF card at most (from what i heard). so i figure i could transfer the new OS 1.2 onto the 1BG CF card using my Sandisk USB flash reader then load it into my MPC, right? well i guess not. windows will only format the flash card as 1GB, so i can't load it into my mpc afterwards. any ideas? maybe there's a program out there that can trick the card into appearing as a 512 MB to the MPC?

Not too sure about this one, but see if you can partition the CF card into two 512mb partitions, then put OS 1.2 on the first one. If not, do you have a SCSI ZIP drive or CDROM ? If you do, then you can copy the new OS to the ZIP drive and load it up from there OR burn the OS file onto CD and load it that way. Let us know how it turns out.

got on my mac and it partitioned my CF disk for me.. windows wouldn't.. so i copied the OS from the mac to the flash and it worked! then i installed it on my MPC, formatted the disk on my mpc and it has 1007 mb.. damn this feels good to have this much space. i'm copying 5 of my current projects from my zip disk/mac and putting them on my new compact flash, plus all my favorite drum kits... so now everything's fresh and ready..

1.2 does not add any "card specific" handling, just changes the MPC's 'format' operation to a PC's partition table style. Applies to hard drives, zips, SM, CF, PCMCIA drives.

The limit for this format is the same for FAT16: 2 Gig, non-partitionable.
