for those who wanna see....the scsi samplers card reader

thought i would post some pics so those who would like to see what it looks like could have a chance before you decide to buy.

dj r1, are you using the card reader with an MPC-60 or MPC3000 ? Also, that looks to be a Microtech PCD-47B card reader in an external case.. curious, cuz there have been mulitple posts stating that the PCD-47b would NOT work in an MPC-60 or MPC3000 because of it's multi-lun configuration.

Rohan and others, you wanna chime in on this ?

Nah, not really. It's the external SCSI case thats huge. The card reader itself is in 3.5" form factor, the same as most floppy drives. Notice the white mounting bracket that's around the card reader, to make it fit in a 5 1/4" case. F**k the size, if that shyt works with the 60 or the 3000, then that will solve alot of thing for alot of cats on this board. I went to the SCSI for Samplers website and read the descritption and I quote:

These Microtech units have had the ROM flash-updated up to the latest version and have been thoroughly tested, plus they come with our full warranty.

So it would seem as though updating the ROM to latest revision makes it usable in MPC's other than the 2k or 2kxl. I'm hopin DJ R1 gets back to us on what MPC he's usin his with.

the problem was not that the 47B doesnt work with the 60/3000---itwas only that it didnt work internally. Externally, a SCSI device is a SCSI device, and so the SCSI interface on the 60 or 3000 should read it just fine.

Yeah I don't know what's up with the obsession to have it internal?

I like to have the floppy and te card reader both available. Why get rid of the floppy?

It's not an obsession... floppy drives go bad.. period. Floppy disks are "fragile" and get damaged way too easy. I been workin as a computer/network engineer for over 13 years, so I'm speakin from experience.

Tic, thanks for clearing that up about internal vs. external, as far as the multi-lun stuff is concerned. Shyt, I may cop a pcd-47b and put it in an external case, hell, there's 3 up for sale/bid on ebay right now for about $25 bones a pop... Acutally, I am gonna grab one to add to the test bed.

Hmmm... The"internal" SCSI bus is the only one on the MPC3000.

The external port is an abstraction or extension of this internal port and is a 25 pin DSUB connector with some fusing/filtering present connected via ribbon on the unit's rear to the internal port on the SCSI board.

Internal or External on the MPC3000 ... it all goes to the same point on the SCSI board.

The MPC60 uses a different SCSI protocol controller chip to the MPC3000. ( and hence has quite different code that drives it ).

What firmware version is the PDC-47B installed with ?

How are it's jumpers configured ?

Is there another bus isolator of some sort inside the SCSI FOR SAMPLERS case ?
