you don't need a card reader... all you need is a USB port and a USB cable. Just hook the 1000 directly to the computer. Make sure you install the newest USB drivers for 98 that you can find though.... I think i recall 98 having some issues with certain USB devices.

Nope: This will not work with win98. Requires at least win2000Me to work. Win98 needs a driver to recognise the CF card on the MPC, and this driver is not available from akai (nor anywhere else). A generic USB/card reader driver will not work either (USB is more specific than SCSI).

so you just couldn't take the card out of the MPC and put it in a card reader? I used to use CF cards on my win98 pc all the time.

hi everyone,
Win-98 Second edition can handle USB storing devices with the right drivers, but not the older Win-98.

if you get an old card reader that comes with WIN98 support on CDRom you can install it and swap files from the PC to the CF card using the card reader.
That is only IF you can find a card reader with win98 support, which is doubtful nowadays.

I have one actually. That I used with my old laptop runnng win98se, so they existed once...
One thing remains sure though, there are no WIN98se drivers for the MPC CF drive.

bring your cf card to net café and find a reader then transfer the os from there? yes sounds real stupid but if you don't have anywhere else to make the transfer?
