I was looking at that new yamaha mw10, its a mixer you connect to pc via usb, but there are no midi connections, are midi connections, necessary to track out from 1k to pc through this usb mixer?

This mixer will only act as an audio interface. So buy an M-Audio Uno to go along with your mixer. It's only $20. But It's very neccesary to have your MPC synced through MIDI while tracking out into sequencing software. To understand the concept better, download Sparq's "track and sync" video. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5CAFVM9T
His audio interface is different and it has MIDI built in. But many of us (including myself) have separate audio and MIDI interfaces. Hopfeully that will clear up any confusion you may have.

also check alot of the usb mixers wont record insert effects which might not be a big deal now but down the road you will want to use those aux and insert pots.

you guys' answers helped, but what do you mean by alot of usb mixers wont record effects, are you talking about certain types of input jacks on the mixer itself?

yeah like the mackie onyx does not record the inserts so if you have a processor on a insert it will not be recorded. not a big deal if you dont use outboard gear.
