mpc4k/cubase sx2 sync question

I have mpc4k to sx2/sx2 to mpc4k sync'd w/midi clock os 1.45


hit play/record on sx2, mpc plays. all works gravy EXCEPT...if I use heavy swing (haven't tried it w/light swing), or if I program a hat/cymbal w/out quant...it messes up. Like..sometimes the cymbal won't play all the notes (or will play notes w/the wrong velocities)..and the latest thing..swing...it gets horribly messed up and playes the wrong velocities and lengths and the swing isn't there in the parts that you can decipher. HOwever, if I hit play on the mpc, it works fine. Just when I hit play on cubase. So I'm thinking this has something to do with cubase's midi clock not being dialed in right or something? I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can someone please help?

Had a bit of a discussion on this in the MPC1000 threads.

I'm thinking of changing to a 4k coz there's too many functions that the 1k's left out.

I use Logic Audio & I'm having the same problems. The Midi Clock is quite an old syncing format & not very accurate. I tried using the MPC as the master & the tempo on Logic was going haywire - it was just racing up & down! I'm gonna try the MPC4k because it has MTC & SMPTE as standard which Logic (& I"m sure Cubase does) syncs with aswell.

I haven't got an 4k yet but try using MTC &/or SMPTE for syncing.

is the midi clock on the mpc set to the same time in the program? thats all i can think of

I spoke to Arbiter who distribute Akai in the UK and Emagic tek guys at the Sounds-Expo today & confirmed that there are midi sync complaints all the time. Midi Clock is crap for syncing! Try using SMPTE and use the MPC as the master when recording to audio.
