Recording Midi into Logic from MPC

Hello,

Just playing around with the MPC for the first time this last weekend.

I've built a drum sequence on the mpc in conjuction with other audio and midi tracks in Logic, and have the MPC running as midi sync slave. All is working well. But if I want to move the midi sequence on the MPC over to Logic so that Logic has full control and I can do editing there, how is this done?

With my Korg drum machine it's quite easy... just hit record in Logic for the length of the loop, then turn midi sync off on the Korg. Hit play in Logic and all is well.

The problem I think I'm not understanding is that each track on the MPC can have a different program. And when I set each track to Midi 1A in my sequence on the MPC, and hit record in Logic, it records all the MIDI events being sent, but when I then play the sequence in Logic, the MIDI notes simply get routed to the currently selected track on the MPC.

So I guess what this amounts to is when using the MPC as an external sound source, only one program/track can be used at one time?

For instance with my S6000, I can have each program set as a specific MIDI channel, and therefore control 32 programs at once from Logic. Can I not do something similar with the MPC?

Can you control multiple programs at one time from an external sequencer?

When you record a sequence from the MPC into a computer sequencer, how is the MIDI data sent from the MPC? For example different MIDI channel per track?

i think you need to have the mpc programs and tracks to each have their own midi chan assigned, then corresponding tracks in logic to send the correct track midi on the correct midi channel. also see the manual for the mpc re: how the mpc handles midi in per track, it can behave differently depending how you set it, try mode/midi-sync pages.

I would just export an SMF. WAY easier than assigning ins and such. Is there a reason this wouldn't work?
