Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Yo, what is the difference between loading a great sounding piano note or guitar or anything, & then opening it to 16 levels, then midiing it to a keyboard, & multisamples?
Has anyone actually used multisamples? If so how would that work if u wanna sequence with the "multisample" on the mpc?

Multi - means more than 1.
Multisample - means more than one sample..

16 levels is a 16 leveling of ONLY 1 sample.

IE, a piano hit multisample has many samples of that same piano hit due to the fact that after the original sample is pitched up to a certain degree it sounds unnatural and so other high/lower octave samples of that SAME piano hit are also sampled and placed in the correct order via midi notes.

Drum mutlisample kits don't rely on pitch info so they are not bound by that constraint, you can still do it using like velocity and nuance differences though.

That's not an official definition, just my take on it.

I also got a question about this:
can I open a sample to 16 levels and then play the different pitches with my midi keyboard?
thanx 4 replies!

lampdog is on point! you should download the two multi sample tutorials from this site to get a hands on idea of what he's talking about. compare what 16 levels or autochromatic assign does to that single piano note to what you hear in the rhodes multisample tutorial

as for the other guys question... i've never tried it. maybe i will though!

Thanx 4 breakin it down for a brutha. Quick question though. After downloading the multisample demo from this site, what would be the midi hook up if I wanted to play the multisamples on keys? What would be the mpc setup?

I've never used my 2kxl for that one right there man, I don't know. I've used it with internal mulitsamples only.. Maybe I should do that one day just to see how that works instead of asking around here on the forums and expecting someone to just GIVE me an answer huh?!?! Just kidding man, no really I'll do it this weekend just to see how that goes, I'm sure it's not hard at all.. I'll use my triton classic + 2kxl how's that..

No.

Keyboard midi out to MPC midi in, you might want to turn local control off on the keyboard unless it's just a controller.

Yo Lamp, The tutor has made a 'blank' program you can load up that sets the pads on the MPC to the propa midi layout.

Pad 1 = Midi note 35 and so on....The program's on his site some where

Ahh haa......Here you go : http://www.drum-loops.com/zipfiles/recycle2.zip
(Its part of a program demo I think...In this case, U only need the PGM file tho)

Load that up before you start multisampling.......Now thanks to me, you'v got a free weekend

To all the new guys, Me , lamp, Tutor and Co. have got a free life....For now..........I can hear a zip drive questions in the distance tho

 8)

Bravo, bravo (not the name but the cheer).... ha. I've downloaded that file a long while back I just never used it cause I was sidetracked one day and never went back to it but come to think of it, I've made my own file a good while back doing the same thing with putting the notes in order. I still wanna mess around this weekend to just experiment cause I don't feel like actually making music just messing around with sounds is a good idea. Good looking out though, hey wait, I see that zip drive question waltzing around the corner.... No, wait, I see that mpc2500 - millenuim edition - super turbo - compact - production center question waltzing around the corner, peeps be killin me with the wishin and wanting...

wasson..
seems suprising noones said this yet- maybes its too blaatent- is there no way of hitting the 16 lev finction inplay or record modes on the 2kxl (mine wont go for it unless i stop what im playing- which is obvilously wrecked up for live purposes. while i think of it- you cant trun on simultaneously play sequence x in play either can you? jus wandering if its coz im rocking an outdated operating program on my mpc or this is just one of those things. By the way, does anyone know if the 25oo cirumvents these minor hassles
peace and shallamahallah
