Feature difference between the 1000 and the 2500

Peace. With the latest OS update on the 1000, what can the 2500 do that the 1000 cannot? Trying to decide between them...

Has Akai updated that PDF yet?
Last I checked (middle of last week) they hadn't updated it for the recent O.S. changes so the 1k info is really off.

From what I've read of the 1000 OS update, there doesn't look like there's that much difference between the units. The price difference is pretty significant if they end up having the same functionality.

One thing we do know is that the pads are a different design. The 1000's are all individual whereas the 2500 is a sheet like the other MPCs - from what I understand. I have no idea if this has contributed to the pad failures issues on the 1000, but it makes me wonder what else is different on the units in terms of construction/hardware.

If i had the money, the pads alone and the 8 outs are enough to sell me on it. Not that it is worth that much more, but if i had the money, i'd do it. Any of the other features aren't great enough to sell me on one.

No 8 outs on the 1000
No Grid Edit on the 1000
Fewer Midi ports on the 1000


Those are three that came to mind... I've never actually messed with a 2500 but that's just what I picked up from various discussions about it.

The one important thing you forget is neither has MMC/MTC. That is the biggest setback for 2500/1000.

I might just break down and cop me a 2000XL MCD. I was really amped off the idea of the 2500 but newer is not always better I guess.

OK so it's all about sync'ing equipment via midi but what's wrong with midi clock that is used by the newer MPCs?

The difference between the MPC 2500 and 2000Xl is mind blowing. You can pick up an XL for $700-$800 or save up for the $1600 plus MPC 2500. The extra money is worth it.

As far as the 1000...its obvious that the MPC 2500 is better built. In fact, every MPC is built better than the 1000. While the 1000 and 2500 share practically the same OS, there are a few differences. However, the OS differences is not the reason why I choose one over the other.

The main reason is that I didn't want an MPC made by Fisher Price and the Parker Brothers

jahrome, you ever looked inside a 1000?

having done so myself, i'd say that the mpc1000 build quality is just as good as any other mpc besides maybe the 60/3000.

the issues i've heard that are unique to the mpc1000 is primarily the pads - but fixing your pads is incredibly easy and makes them supremely durable. otherwise, a cheap "feel" is only that - the thing is built like a tank.

all other models aren't flawless, either - the 2000s have pad issues over time as well.

not to mention that the 1000 and 2500 have similar software issues right now, esp when concerning hard drive stuff.

however, someone should get into the 2500's chop shop, because i think that's one of the biggest +s of that machine over the 1000 besides size and initial pad quality.
