Is it just my 2500, or does the data wheel not "accelerate" like it's supposed to when you turn it faster, like with every click the value changes just 1 incremental unit without speeding up (so basically, it travels the same speed regardless of how fast you turn the wheel)? I have a 2 bar sample loaded up, chopped them into equal regions and am adjusting the start/end points, but it seems like I can't get it the highlighted part of the region to move as quickly as I could with my 2000XL? Can someone enlighten me on this; Jahrome, perhaps?

I definitely can't rule out that it's a hardware malfunction, can I? I mean, each value changes with every click, unless there is some other type of clicking mechanism that's supposed to read a faster turned wheel (which I highly doubt). I guess I need to make a trip to my local guitar center and run a few tests. HOPEFULLY, I'll get the same results.

And yes, I've upgraded to the v1.1 OS already... someone help!

It works differently in the 2500 I think. if you hold shift and pres cursor left, then you can scroll by 10s, scroll and one more click left and your scrolling by 100s etc. takes getting used to, but faster once you do. and more precise.

Yeah, I read that part, it's in the manual, but it also says that, "the data varibly increases the faster the wheel is turned." Can I assume that it's something they cut and pasted from the XL's manaul.

So basically it works like the old MPC2000's wheel? Where you changed the values of the digits you wanted to work with?

The faster you turn the wheel..the faster data should increase or decrease. If your MPC doesn't do this, there is something wrong.

It doesn't work like the MPC 2000s wheel, which is the best wheel out of every MPC, IMHO.

There is a slight difference. It can mean that the values change faster proportional to the speed you turn the wheel, which it certainly does even with episode's MPC. Then the ratio of value per click can increase disproportionally when you turn faster, which is how it works on the 2000XL I think. That's what episode meant I think, but that's not working on the MPC2500.

Hope that was clear :?

Yes, Stilo, that's exactly it. Jahrome, I think what you thought I meant was that: if I turned the wheel faster, that the speed of the cursor remained the same.... I might've explained it wrong. It does, in fact, speed up and slow down according to the speed that I rotate the wheel.

I just wanted to know if the 2500's wheel operated similar to the 2000XL's wheel in the way Stilo described above. And as for me comparing it to the MPC2000's data wheel, I was referring to how you can choose which place value you'd like to scroll (when adjusting start/end points).

Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with it if it didn't operate that way I thought it did, I was more concerned if I had received a defective unit.

Ok. I understand now. Your 2500 is not broken :D

I think it was already mentioned..but you will have to use the Shift+Left/Right Cursor keys to increase/decrease increments (10s, 100s, 1000s, etc). This is so much easier on the 2000, where I can't understand why Akai would chage that function.

However, you can always use the Q-link sliders for editing sample start and end points. Its much faster that way..and then use the data wheel for more detailed editing.

Great. Thanks Stilo & Jahrome for clarifying that up for me. Chopping samples is extremely easy now with the 2500, especially with the -/+ buttons below the wheel. Honestly, it almost eliminates the need for me having to rotate that wheel.

And Jahrome I 'd have to agree with you, the MPC2000's data wheel was the best. And of all the other MPC wheels, seemed like the only one to be built like a tank.

..... BUT! my biggest problem with the build quality (OF ALL MPCs) is how flimsy and loosely attached the buttons are. I've come across so many units with the buttons "dislocated" from the unit below the faceplace; I could imagine how easy it could've been to have accidentally missed pressing the button and dislodging it from it's place. I mean, they expect those two plastic prongs to hold down the button forever? With all the MPCs that you've ever dealt with, Jahrome, I'm sure you've seen you're fair share of "loose" buttons. Man, it's the worst!

Yes, I have seen my fair share of loos buttons. Akai can mos def improve in this area. Personally, I am more light handed with my MPC, so I have never had problems in this area. But my partners that use MPCs..abuse the hell out of them. I cringe when people beat on my MPC..
