Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By delano517 Tue Apr 25, 2006 1:08 am
I just bought the IISDMC and I cannot get anything to work except for CF cards. I have a 1 gig SD and a 512XD card and neither work. I just ge a "drive not ready message" but when the CF card is put in it works fine.
Can someone help who has this reader?(I have a 2000xl)

Insert only one card at a time. If you have more that one card inserted including the CF card, the MPC will only read the CF card. HTH!!!

My SD card still won't work after doing that. But when I eject the CF card the led lights up for the SD slot. WTF?

I never put both cards in at the same time. I wonder if you need all 4 wires hooked up on the power wire instead of 2. I followed the instructions off of mpc2000xl.com.

I don't think it's a power cable issue. I have a 4-wire power cable. BTW, the SD card isn't working either way, when inserted by itself or with the compact flash card in it's slot.

I don't have that reader, I have the one from VST, but when I first installed it I had the jumper set wrong (even though it was set as the instructions indicated) and all it could do was read CF cards. The light on the other slots would light up when you took a CF card out but they would never read.
Once I set the jumpers correctly I could read cards in either slot.

maybe the mpc doesn't like the sd cards.

some readers can only use one slot at a time.

some readers can use all the slots at the same time
and they show up as different icons in the mpc menu.

Delano, did you ever figure this out? I got the same problem. I've tried SD and SMC cards with no luck. I put the IISDMC in my PC just to make sure it wasn't defective and it worked fine. I upgraded my MPC to OS1.2, still nothing ..... Whatever I do it just says "Not Ready" I am debating whether to go buy a comapct flash card and try it

Didn't you get a manual with the reader? It should elaborate on the different jumper settings.

I thought that only was possible if your drive was connected by SCSI. Each slot has it's own SCSI ID and therefore all slots could mount at once. The drive VST sells only mounts one at a time and defaults to the CF slot. When you pull it out the other slot reads. I vaguely remember this from all the reading I did before I switched to an XL and the VST card reader upgrade.

I never figured it out so I just bought a few CF cards off ebay. I got 2 512mb cards for only $20 each. 512mb is more that enough memory. It is so easy to make kits in MPC editor and just transfer them. If anyone comes up with an answer on how to get the other cards to work let me know. Sorry i couldnt help.
