smart media cards

My buddy went to guitar center the other day, trying to by a smart media card.
Guitar Center said they've discontinued those card and aren't going to sell them anymore.
Any of you guys heard anything about that?
I know i can always find smart media cards online, but I thought it was weird that Guitar Center was doing that since many beat machines use this card.
The reason i brought this up is because i have a sp 303 that uses smart media and i plan on getting a multi-card reader for the mpc, i always frequent Guitar Center to pick up what i need when i don't want to wait for online shipping.
I heard Guitar Center is now going with some other type of media cards.
Knowing how Guitar Center is with just getting the latest/greatest equipment and just getting rid of all of last years products, it doesn't surprise me. It also won't suprise me if the staff there didn't know what they were talking about.

It is a fact that smart media cards are becoming more difficult to find thatn SD and CF cards. If you are running an sp-303 then I would advise you to buy a batch of smart media cards online, just in case.

Your best bet would be to check with a local computer store, i.e., CompUSA as well as some small store front stores that builds computers. They usually know what's available and what's not and whether a product is becoming "extinct".

Costco has the hookup right now.
