copying .wav files onto zip drive on computer under win xp

hello everyone =)

i have been trying to find some information of what i have to do to get the mpc to recognise .wav files i copy onto zip disks on my computer under win xp.

as i understand it, the hard disk of the computer must be formatted under FAT file system.

can i keep my current NTFS file system which will have win xp and all other programs on it and just make a new FAT partition where i can store the .wav files? if so, how do i do this?

what happens when i copy from the new FAT partition to the zip drive in windows explorer? will it recongise it as a FAT formatted zip disk?

im a bit confused. i really want to keep win xp and all my programs on NTFS, and still have the flexibility of copying to zip disks to load in the mpc2000xl.

should i format as FAT or FAT 32? which one does the MPC recognise?

any help would be much appreciated =)

You only have to format the C drive to FAT32 if you want it to recognise MPC formatted disks. (BTW, it's the formatting of the drive that holds the XP OS that will affect MPC format loading, so just having an additional FAT32 partition wont cut it - you'd have to set up a dual boot where you actually install a second OS no the FAT32 partition)

The easy solution is to format all your zip disks to FAT. This will be read by both PC and MPC. Do not format the zip to FAT32, the MPC will not read it.

I'm about to cop a pc and I was wondering that too...
I heard that there could occur problems with windows XP or 2000 if the harddrive is formatted in FAT and not NTFS.
is this true?

If you format your zips as FAT you will have no problems, period.

Could you please explain this section a lil bit for me. My PC is already formatted to FAT 32, so my question is what do I do next? How do I format under FAT from a FAT 32 set up?

Load up your zip disk ito your PC

Go to My Computer

Right click on your zip drive icon

Select FORMAT

From the drop down, select FAT (not FAT32).

By default, any new PC formated zip disc will be in this format. As I said, it doesn't matter what OS of Windoes your PC runs if you stick to FAT formatting for your removable disks - FAT formatted zip will work in MPC, PC and Mac.

I dont have a zip for my pc yet but Im about to cop one so here goes....

So your pc will read zip disks as long as it is formatted to fat? Does it matter if your pc is nfts formatted?

No, that's not the attitude I try to promote around here, Shyda - I expect people to read the entire thread before asking a question.
