tap tempo does not work properly. when you are playing a sample and tapping the tempo to it, it wont work. Ive tried playing the sample in a sequence, or just by hitting the pad. ive also tried playing a kick and using the tap tempo as the snare and still no luck

**** this shit mother ****!!!!!!!

ive tried 2, 3, 4 on the tap setting..........and still not working. The only time it works is when no sample is playing and you tap it.

what good is it if you cant tap it to a sample or with a sample?

come on akai!

1. start a new program
2. assign the sample to that prog
3. tap the pad
4. tap tempo

no problem here.
make sure that when you tap the pad, you dont hold it down. tap tempo is disabled when a pads being held down.

how are you supposed to get the tempo of a shortish sample with this method? you better be damn quick and accurate on the tempo tap button. i sync my shit up by putting it in a sequence on loop and adjust the tempo with the data wheel till it loops right.

i wish they had a way to use tap tempo to find the tempo of something in the patch phrase window too. this is one of the main things that keeps me from using it alot. cause that automatic one, i just dont trust.

I have no problem with the tap tempo on my unit. Honestly, I have never used it much on any MPC...not until these latest threads.....

What is the purpose of hitting the pads and using tap tempo at the same time? Is there really a need for this?

Patched Phrase tempo is calculated in the Trim menu. When you create a sequence with one, it follows any tempo changes..including tap tempo.

Although the 2500 needs another OS update (mainly for the MIDI bug), I am really curious to hear your thoughts of why this function should be improved.

for instance if you have a chopped up sample that you wanna play or a loop you can tap the tempo in to get you in a good ballpark range of what the tempo should be, then do fine adjustments with the data wheel

yes there are other ways to find tempo but its all preference

If I understand you correctly....you mean to hold down a pad with a loop assigned to it and then use tap tempo to get the approx tempo? If that is so..I can see where this comes in handy. This can't be done with the current OS...so add my vote to improve this function.

After digging more into the 2500s tempo detect functions...it is really not that great compairing it to the MPC 2000XL. At least this is what I find so far. I get better results using the XL.

works fine, i just tam the tempo to the original piece i cut before iv sliced it, but have assigned it to a pad, then to get it perfect use data wheel. The best advice iv read and can give on the tam tempo button, is to keep your finger on it when tapping, remember its not a rubber pad, so just click it in the tempo, dont lift your finger off every time you press it, just click click click. works best for me.

yeah u got it, but u neccessarily dont have to hold the pad down

it could be a one shot sample that you hit once and tap the tempo in, and keep hitting it with counts of 4 or whatever

I can agree with you that the Xls tap tempo functioned better

with this unit if you have the tap average set to 4 you have to stop on the 4th hit to get the updated tempo change

on the XL it would keep updating while you were tapping after every 4 hits

yea when I have say 16 short half bar chops I use to tap out the samples aswell as the tap tempo just to get a feel of whats gonna go on when I record the 16 short chops .....with the 2500 their is no doing this because when I hit the sample the same time I hit the tap tempo the tempo automaticly goes to 300 bpms ......their is ways around it ...but f**k again why take away shit I had on my 2000....what ever ...its not that big of a deal....just kinda silly !

i do it with the kick and snare. using the tap tempo as the snare. First I will play out a kick snare pattern with the pads, then when i want to figure out the tempo of what i played, I use the tap tempo button instead of the snare pad.

That way i can just think of a pattern in my head. When i play out the pattern, i can get the exact tempo it should be. I use to do this on my mpc4000 all day.

You get a lot more groove then if you play to the metronome.

Plus its for short samples too. and if you dont have your sample as a one shot, but as note off, you have to hold the pad down. SOmetimes you want your phrases as note off for certain effects.
