More is better, yeah you can do a lot with 2mb-32mb as has been proved but more is better.

It makes the workflow quicker, allows more programs, tracks and sequences and so on.

If the 2kxl could take 128mb i'm sure most of the people on here would max it out, unless it's for financial reasons or whatever.

Plus i can sample whole tracks into my MPC and save them to the hard drive then they are there wherever i go, ready to chop up/edit as i want.

I also use the MPC to record my vinyl to WAV format so that i can use it with Serato. Most files are at least 40mb

32 mb is plenty if your using mainly percussive one shots, i'd have no trouble filling every pad of the 4 DRUM parts. better off picking up a rack to trigger from the mpc is you find it isnt enough RAM. i just got an e4xt cheap, and i am thorougly enjoying it. its so synth like, and puts the mpc's sampler to shame.

kids was making the ill beats on a floppy before, 32 is more than enough, 128 just makes you sloppy, you load a bunch of sounds ur not even using, I kinda with I still had floppy drive, forces you to be more creative and more orginized. Instead of waiting to load 128 megs of sounds when your actually only using 3 megs in track.

yeh true, using an eps, has made me really tight with memory, i have never come close to filling the 32mb has on offer, i do enjoy having 128 in the my emu rack, as i tend to load up a bunch of presets and use it more like a sound module.

32 will work fine, but depends on what you wanna do really, i upgraded to 128 because i just wanted the freedom.

is it better to fit all your sh!t into a closet, or would you rather have a room all to yourself?

that's the way i see ram. even if you're not gonna fill the room, it absolutely does not hurt to have the room, in fact it makes it a lot more comfortable.

32 is enough for most simple hip hop. but you can do more with 128, even if your final product ends up under 32 megs...

Realistic multisamples, like a realsitic piano with multiple samples for every note at different velocities, take up lots of memory.

Some cats also like to load the mpc up with as many samples as they possibly can at one time.
