Does anyone actually make a living off dis shyt?????????????

lol, im not making much of a living, but i pay my bills and eat from beat sales and show money now. If times get hard, ill pick up a side job real quick doing carpentry or painting, but for now, its just music all day. Music, and promotion. But i am struggling though haha. Not sellin drugs or anything either, just sellin beats, and doin shows, and DJing

I personally know 3 people that are pretty much small time and they make a good honest living off of this music stuff.One cat is a mixshow DJ that works for the local radio station a couple nights a week doing mixshows and whatever parties they are promoting along with doing beats for local acts.Another guy is a touring hiphop musician.The cats been all around the world doing hiphop shows and selling CD's lived right in my backyard and I had never even heard of him before.We clicked up and are slowly starting to put our heads together on the music tip.The last guy I know is the "Tour DJ" for a national recording group...you may have heard of them 36 mafia...I've known dude most of my life and he's always managed to eat off of music.It's for sure possible to make a living doing hiphop if your slanging beats,mc'ing or DJ ing.I'd say the biggest thing is to network.All of the people I mentioned have exceptional people skills and they stay immersed in the music scene.Go to shows,parties and wherever else and just meet people.I can attest to the fact that you don't have to be the most talented person in the world to make moves at this.It's all about who you know.You can't be a recluse.Another thing is that if you plan on doing this for a living your gonna have to relieve yourself of as much debt as possible.Keep it simple rent and other basic neccesities.The money comes but it won't always come fast enough that you can comit to paying X amount in monthly living expenses.

People have to remember that musicians are in the lowest income bracket. Once you get a steady flow of customers, then you can really consider making a living out of it. Until then, its just a hobby.

Has anyone seen the Premo vids off the link above? I keep getting error mesages

The video of Alchemist on YouTube isn't the whole video. I remember having a link about 2 yrs ago, it was 2 parts. He was making a beat on 1 of them for Infamous Mobb.

Anyways, props to whomever is making a living off of this. I'd like to just like the next man, but you have to work hard.. without question. These cats though like D4L.. who f'n knows how they got big? D4L is that laffy taffy sh*t if you weren't sure. But, it's hard to do this all the time. I love making beats, so to me it wouldn't be considered work. But if you're struggling without a job, it's basically work to get that money to pay bills. I just don't have the time to always bang out beats on the regular. I'm a manager for a Photo Lab, so I work a lot like the next man.. but it's always ya girl who takes up all the time. Not a bad thing, but you just want to be with your mpc sometimes a bit more, lol

I'm in a business where you make make more money than the music business.. so it's more of a hobby for that reason...

I rake in 200 bucks a week sometimes every 2 weeks from slanging tapes and cd's. I do shows here and there, but its only like 50 bucks.

I do what I can side jobs and ect for money....I'm lucky if I get $400 a month. Usually I only sell one beat a month for $150.
