Reissue?

Whats the easiest way to tell if a record is an OG or a reissue?

lol. i guess you are a beginner at crate diggin'. i would give you a smart a#$ answer but i won't. think about it, when you are digging, what kind of record store are you in when you are looking for lp's? the place should look like a place where alot of old records are kept, and are not wrapped in plastic.on the record it would say it is a re-issue and wrapped in plastic. a original pressing would not be wrapped unless it has never been opened. sometimes an re-issue is not wrapped either.

So thats it? It just says re-issue on the cover?!

the year is a good thing to look for

old shit from the 90's to me is the hardest thing to spot if its a repress, stuff like diamond d's, old wu shit, old lotug, lons stuff is hard to spot for represses

but its much eaier to spot represses in the soul jazz and funk sections, blue notes are easy to spot cause although the records in new or excellent conditon the cover always seems to show its age, haha

alot of cti's ive seen have the gatefold covers, but everytime i see the "two" its never the gatfold, good way to spot represses

umm the label is a good thing to check also, and if its pressed on 180 gram vinyl, once you've been diggin for a while it almost comes naturally to be able to see a represss, it'll come in time

PS A lot of records dont say "reissue" on the cover

i dont think so ....... the way to check a reissue is the cover the album cover , when you pick up an old cover you can tell the thickness of the cover it's thinker cardboard and usually yellowish and looks beat down a reissue has a whit cover usually thinner and shaper edges, and if you look at the art work of a reissue you can see it looks all sloppy and like it was copied.

you can find an OG record with the plastic still on it, that just means the person or who ever had it took care of it .

the sound is another thing to chck,you can hear a reissue and an OG and tell the difference.

most older records have pasted on backs
it is the easiest method when peeping large amounts of wax.

BARCODES
if you see a barcode it is a re-issue
also
the true way is to check the scratches on the record

all records have factory info on the record by the hole
look at the numbers
usually they will have dates , product number, and run count marked
learn those numbers

i just ran into a reissue to day actually to of the same records in mint condition and one said it was a reissue and the other was an original te only thing that gave it away wa the color of the the paper backing one was yellowish and didnt have a RIAA sticker on it which was the original and the other was white and had the RIAA stamped on it the only way i know that was because the plastic it was in , the sticker on the out side said it was a reissue so i took both and studied them both record and cover how the guy before had got that info is beyound me but i studied them and the RIAA sticker was the only thing i can see diff...oh and the white on the reissue but the jacket cardboard was the same as well just that sticker back label cover , these were some 1950's records buy the platters golden series collection, i was trippin because one was a bit more then the other,

just thought i'd share that with oyu guys .
